    Default Parables

One of the quotes I said in the Big Trouble in Little China thread got me thinking about parables ("Folks that throw dirt on you aren't always trying to hurt you, and folks that pull you out of a jam aren't always trying to help you. But the main point is when you're up to your nose in ****, keep your mouth shut." ~~My Name is Nobody). I'm sure most people know the parable that quote went with.

So if you know of an interesting parable (of course one that doesn't break the guidelines), share it...or make one up. Let us see how creative you are.

    EDIT:
Definition of a parable: a short allegorical story designed to illustrate or teach some truth, religious principle, or moral lesson.

Example of a parable: Once upon a time, there was a general who was leading his army into battle against an enemy ten times the size of his own. Along the way to the battle field, the troops stopped by a small temple to pray for victory. The general held up a coin and told his troops, "I am going to implore the gods to help us crush our enemy. If this coin lands with the heads on top, we'll win. If it's tails, we'll lose. Our fate is in the hands of the gods. Let's pray wholeheartedly." After a short prayer, the general tossed the coin. It landed with the heads on top. The troops were overjoyed and went into the battle with high siprit. Just as predicted, the smaller army won the battle. The soldiers were exalted, "It's good to have the gods on our side! No one can change what they have determined." "Really?" The general show them the coin--both sides of it were heads.
Moral of the story: Your fate is in your own hands.

Hmmm English and Grammar were never my favorite subjects, so hopefully this is considered a parable, but I always liked these two and actually use them in counseling sessions for my job....(I might have the exact wording messed up as it is early this morning and I'm half awake, and heck, I am definitely known for butchering quotes :P)

"Just when the catepillar thought it's life was about to end, it became a beautify butterfly"

Also the next one was resurrected in a movie recently, and I hate when these things get popular, but I also like "even in the deepest darkness, the smallest light shines bright"

There's a 70% chance I was drunk, 20% hungover, 90% drinking, when I posted this. I think that's 185% alcohol is involved. You do the math, my grammar is immaculate.

I heard this one in the movie "Cars" and it cracks me up. Mater finally gets his ride in a helecopter and hes yelling out the door as loud as he can:

"I'm happier than a tornado in a trailer park"
