Thumbs up Who did voiceover for Devel Assault?

Did one of the Devs do the voiceover?

    Does anyone know which one?

They did a fine job, whoever it was, though it's a bit too soft to hear over the screaming, spell effects, and deaths. Project a bit more!

I do believe it was Eldorudo.

I've noticed a few comments of liking "variety" in our DM voices to sort of mix things up once in a while. I'll be sure to let Eldorudo know you liked his rendition of the Devil Assault

I thought they (Or Eldorudo, if it was him. ) did a very good job. Was a great surprise--

--though I'll be honest, cause I'm like that.

My first thought upon hearing it:

"I think he's trying a bit hard for the "cool guy" voice. Sounds forced."

    Got used to it though.

When my party members start screaming like that I just squelch them.

It's easy now all you have to do is right click on their name and choo... wait. You were talking about something else, weren't you?

{:rereads the thread:} Oh yeah, the um... voiceover. It was awesome. Whoever it was should be doing them more often.

I've noticed a lot of comments by people about the narrator when entering a dungeon with a new voice. I think it is a great way to "spice" up the environment. (PS use both male and female voices)

Also, did Delare's Tomb (N,H,E) these past couple of days and was amazed how many players finally put two and two together on who the narrator is...

    Agreed.

Delara's was a tad sad the first time after Gygax passed away.

When I first heard it I thought, "Woah! Who is this phenomenal DM? Man, the pipes on this guy are unreal. He should be doing more voiceovers!"

I kid, I kid. Thanks for the feedback.

I actually think some of the bad voice overs help. Help me help me.

It's cheesy, they could easily have two people do the voice overs, so the humor of cheesy voice overs isn't lost on me.

Not that Eld's was cheesy, very nice voice.

Now, the question is did you get extra pay for doing voice work? Is there a (real) guild that you need to join now? What sort of royalties are you getting?

I suspected it was Eldorudo, based on his comment of having his voice in Mod6. Then when I heard the Ask the Devs on the DDO podcast, it was confirmed.

Good work. A little growly for my taste, but that's a minor nit.

Tolero, Eldorudo, thanks for stopping by and answering. Sounds like y'all had a lot of fun putting this together, and I think you pulled it off splendidly; The tent explodey sequence knocked my socks off.

I expect the original intent of the voice overs were to give it a tabletop D&D "DM reads the box text" feel. I dig it, but I think you'd have fun playing around with other styles, too. PoP, for example, might have been just a little bit cooler if you actually had a "soft feminine voice" just say the spiel about self destruct (same for the puzzle in Reaver). Less D&D, but better immersion.

Leave the "DM voiceover" for descriptions of things, 'cuz it is it very appropriate, but consider playing around with some voice actors. I think it'd be great if I could hear a koboldy voice scream "Dizafrabadoo", or a stern matronly Velah lecture me about prophesy.

Dangit, Dom! No wonder you didn't say anything when I asked for a heal!

Good job, El! Breath of fresh air and the intensity in your voice kind of went well with the event that night. However, in the interest of being constructive and honest it did sound a little forced. I'm sure it was unintentional - first times can do that.

Hope to hear more from you!

A little tidbit, El Dorudo also (I suspect) did the voice over for the commercial on DDOCast to kick off the event.
