    Default Ren's Mentoring Program Re-Dux

Over on Thelanis we've started a Mentoring Program where you, the experienced player, can help out someone new to the game. It was started by Renegade66 and has grown to include other servers. If you are interested in working with someone new, please send me a PM and I will add you to the list for Sarlona. If you have a particluar class you like working with or some other speciality such as role-playing, please include that so I can match you up with the appropriate person.

Once I have a few names of mentors, I'll start posting in the Newbie Harbor etc.

    Thanks in advance for participating,
    Jules

The idea of volunteering as a mentor is a wonderful one, and I hope many have responded to the idea.

I hate to sound like SUCH a noob, considering my long history with the tabletop version of D&D, but I've only been playing DDO for about three or four days now, so I apologize for my shininess here. My question is how to FIND these mentors - I've met two really nice people so far (I find that a teensy bit sad, considering that's two people over four days, and one was met by my husband first, not me, so I suppose that means we've each found one person).

I find most people don't talk here (here being in the game, not on the forum). They run around, some run, jump, and swing their weapons like maniacs, many blind invite to both guilds and groups, but even those who invite rarely seem willing to TALK. Personally, I won't accept an invite from someone who can't speak, (text-ally speaking lol), because usually that's going to spell disaster for a group (you really need to communicate to your party members, for reasons any experienced player doesn't need listed here). My hubby even got invited to group that basically ran through a dungeon without a word, leaving him to trail behind in completely confusion while they bashed, looted and killed their way through the dungeon, pretty much without being able to lift a finger to help. Not exactly wure the idea behind THAT experience, but there ya go.

Anyway - Thanks for putting the effort out there, and for taking the time to read my rambling desire to learn more and play better

Maybe you are on the wrong server?
    (j/k all!)

The blind invites/tells get less and less the higher level you get. People figure out that it's not really the best way to do things eventually, I think. I guess the best thing to do would be to start with the list she's going to post. Take those names (character names of course! ) and send any online a Tell. If nobody is on, shoot them an in-game mail explaining who you are and what you are after (or send them a PM here). On Thelanis, several people have 'signed up' and many are very willing to help out (some of us even answer questions in the middle of quests at times!). I'm sure that there are some quality folks here that will do the same.

I know that when I see people typing in General chat asking questions, I try to shoot them a Tell and see if I can help them out. this may work too. An LFM stating that you are newer to the game and have some questions may work too, but it's true that a lot of people are busy with guild/friend runs and won't be checking out the LFMs.

I've got alts on Sarlona up to lvl 5 I think. Shoot me a PM if you would like to run together sometime. I'm not Mr. Uber, but I could probably make things a bit less frustrating.

    Take care!

Look for any of the Fighting Clowns, we are a small guild who play casually. We have started recruiting and enjoy helping new people get started. No spoilers, and no zerging so long as we know you are new. We have alts at most levels.
