    Default Hello Sarlona!

k so yea I am new to these forums and new to the game. I just wanted to stop in and say hello to my new home. I have played AD&D since it release as Basic D&D, actually I played when Chainmale was out "whew" I'm old =P. I have not played the pen and paper version in years but I think I basically own everything in print that is second edition and back of all game worlds, yea ok so I was an adict (winks) I moved on to online MMO games like EverQuest and then on to Dark Age of Camelot. I pretty much played on nothing but FFA PvP servers or team PvP servers. Over the years I guess in my old age it has become harder and harder to compete with these young kids and there cat like reflexes hehe so I have slacked off alot on my gaming.

With the recent passing of our gaming father Gary Gygax, I am not sure why it hit me as hard as it did, but I really was broken up by his passing, I guess maybe my passion for the game up until they retired second edition, and maybe me meeting him several times, even being DMed by him a few times at Conventions ... I got to thinking about DDO. I think what really pulled me here was seeing the Gygax tribute video from this server which by the way was very well done. I skipped past the trial and just went and bought the game. I guess I am really wanting to make this game work hehe.

Anyways once I figure out the class I want to play as my primary, I will create and name it Damaja for those who might see me in game and remember me from here. ok well, I have rambled on enough hehe sorry to take up your time on this pointless thread hehe Maybe I see some of you in game. If you see the name Damaja /wave a hand at me

    Default Question

ok so here come questions =P

Question: Is there a way to pan your vision all the way around so you are looking at the front of your character or is that not an option? I know every now and then its nice to be able to swing around and see what your character looks like wearing that special new robe or whatever hehe.

Question: I know in all my past MMO games the games had a feature called mouserun, meaning you could hold the right click down and it would allow you to move your vision around as long as you held it down and then using the left click button you could run your character around. Using the two together allowed you to run and direct your way where you want to go killing the use of the W A S D controls and letting you do all movement with just the mouse, is there a way to set the game to do that?

k will stop at 2 questions tonight hehe but prepare for more.

PS: so far I am in love with this game. It has the feeling like I have finally come home.

1 - The left mouse button works to pan the camera when held down. I pretty much have LMB down 95% of the time I'm playing. There is a toggle key, 'T' by default, that will 'hold the LMB down' for ya...

2 - 'R' is the default autorun key.

Both of these keys can be redefined under the keymapping options

    Oh, and welcome to stormreach!!!!

I recommend if you're completely new to the game, start by playing a Dwarven Fighter and sticking with one class - then you can get a feel for the game. Once you get to 400 favor you will unlock a new race: Drow, and you can then think about other options such as playing a spell caster or maybe rolling a ranger or bard. Getting a bard early on will allow you to use your Haggle skill to make the most money in the game, and money means items!

Also - I think the default keymap allows you to rotate the camera around your character by using the middle mouse button

    Default Welcome

Welcome to Stormreach, I hope you like it here!

    To answer your questions:

    1. Mouserun, mouselook mode is toggled by the "T" key, or you can click and hold the left mouse button.

    2. You can orbit your camera with the middle mouse button.

And I have some low level girls now to including a ranger and bard so if you ever need to run quests with a party oh a cleric to but dont play her much hehe. Either way welcome to the game glad you like it so much hope we run into each other sometime ^_^

wow so many PMs in game last night lol you shoulda seen me, someone ..... bleh I forget his/her name sent me a PM and I instantly went to what Ive always known and thats hit the "r" key to start my reply, I tend to look at the key board alot when I type so by time I noticed I had all kinda of **** activated on my game my screen was full, I had mouse look toggled and didnt know how to get it turned off lol *whew* yea I had a mess but I was informed how to fix it and reply to messages so all ended well. I went and done the first newbie quest to collect the 4 wizard books or stones, I gorget I was sleepy last night, but was a very refreshing experience in my gaming having a Dm "so to speak" telling me things going on as a DM would in real life.

Still to early to tell how I will like the game but so far so good. Thanks for the in game welcomes as well as those done here.

I do plan to try a cleric also, so if the name is safe it will be named Mojache and will prolly tinker round with it tonight, those being my two favorite AD&D classes Cleric and Wizard/or Sorc in this new ruleset.

    Hello Damaja!

Glad to see you got on - was going to look for ya last night but ended up not logging on (got sucked into a stargate atlantis marathon on my tivo).

As someone else mentioned, fighters (or even pali or barbs) are good first characters. the "r" and "t" buttons toggle on and off the autorun (r) and mouse-look mode (t). middle mouse allows you to pan around your view.

check out your key mapping (options panel). you can assign things however you like. you can customize your hotbars and basically any control on there. so just set it to what is natural for you.

    See you in game!

yea I like my sorc so far, working on level 1 Rank 3 /flex

Whatever Rank 3 means hehe I guess thats what happens when you buy the virtual game and download it and not get the rulebook.

But its very confusing for me due to the fact that I stopped learning rules after second edition. In second edition in my campaigns if you were a caster class you DID NOT wear anything over cloth armor, but now I see with these rules casters can wear heavier armor, and get feats to reduce penalties on there casting for wearing the heavier armor?

    uhhh

    sure ..........

I am in Stormwind right now, not sure where to go from there though, gonna tinker around more tomorrow, need to cook dinner for the kids hehe

anyways .... how hard are clerics? I always liked clerics as well, and yes learning this new rules-set is gonna be a pain since I live by second edition rules grrrr

Cleric's are one of the most complicated and expensive characters to play.

I would strongly advise starting with a Melee (Fighter or Barbarian, Dwarf) since they rule the low level content & you'll be able to solo some low level stuff with relative ease (if you're into that).

Once you have your 400 Favor you will have Drow unlocked (generally considered the "best" race for being a Wizard/Sorcerer/Bard due to the +2 racial bonus to Charisma and Intelligence). At this point I would roll a new Drow Bard (max Cha, get Con as high as you can) for a few reasons: 1) Bards Rock!, 2) High Haggle = Making $, and 3) It's a casting class that can kind of "break you in" to being a caster in this game. Use this character to get your 1750 favor and then you can roll 32pt builds (this part will take awhile).

By that time you should be familiar enough with the various aspects of the game & have enough $ to afford playing a Cleric.

PS: To elaborate, the reason why Clerics can be more challanging to play is because you are mostly responsible for keeping the party alive & well, meaning you need to know what gets rid of Feeblemind or Curse or Bane or ....
