Default Paladin: the compassion to pursue good...

Look at the Paladin description? "Paladin The compassion to pursue good, the will to uphold law, and the power to defeat evil - these are the three weapons of the paladin." Are paladins actually better at these things than any other classes? The first two appear to be more RP. So, do we actually defeat evil better? I would like to see paladin enhancements or innate upgrades that help this class defeat evil. Fix smite. Help our aura demoralize evil. Give us extra good or holy damage enhancements. Enhancements versus undead. Something against evil for paladin levels past level 11.

We were told paladin love was coming in mod 7, presumably to those ends, but as of the March 10th WDA there is not much to speak of

At least they are "fixing" the holy sword spell. Weapon won't be destroyed until you have been logged out of the game for 30 min. But then again you actually need to take the spell over say dw and restoration.

Why would you take Resoration as a spell when Scrolls are Cheap and Plentiful?

One could possibly cast Holy Sword in the Tavern, and then change the spell out for something else.

I appreciate this update to the spell, but it does absolutely nothing for a paladin's contribution to a party during a quest. Make it silver, that would be an upgrade. Green steel holy pure good burst is much better weapon in the vale quests, and it isn't that hard to get small and medium components to make this sword.

    Default Days of Lore

When I think of the Paladin, I think of the 1st edition Paladin, bay in the day, nye on 30 years past. Before mages could put the smack on with a 435 hp fireball, before barbarians were only fighter kit, there was a time when the Paladin was THE battlefield weapon. Of course there is a reason not everyone played a Paladin. They couldn't. Plaladins had minimum 3d6 rolled stats of (I probably should go look) 18 Chr, 16 Str, 14 Wis. Back in the day, these were outstanding stats and unlikely to get any better short of a carefully worded wish.

The Paladin had all the offensive power of the fighter with the bonus perks with which we are familiar: LOH, Remove Disease, and Immunity to Fear. Paladins chose spells from the cleric spell list, at a slower progression, than the cleric. In addition, the Paladin was granted a class feat: Weapon Proficiency: Lance, for mounted combat.

To some extent, the Paladins have the attributes from the old days, on the healing side of the fence. Paladins, no matter the trade-off, get the short end of the offense stick. Effectively, through the ages, the Paladin has been reduced from the ultimate warrior to, at best, a sturdy off-tank.

What I would like to see is, an enhanceable class feat, that has the effect of "Righteousness" making the Paladin truely the force against evil. And, as for 'remove disease' toss it or bump it up to 'remove affliction (crushing despair, symbol of pain, and etc...)'. Remove disease is a hold-over made archaic by the wand.

    .

When I first rolled my very first guy in PnP version 2 I think (when they still had human capping out at 18 str with another "mod" after it representing how strong of an 18 it was. I was rolling like a mad man, I can't recall off the top of my head but I had like two 18's and a 17 in there. So, what did I make? A paladin. 18 str, 18 char, 17 wisdom. A beast of a toon
