    Default Interesting....

With all the talk about min max builds and 32 point characters, I've always regretted my 14 CON a little. I took the 4 ability points it would have taken to go from 14 to 16 and increased wisdom by 2 and dexterity by 2 to give me +1 to reflex and _+1 to will saves. As much as we all talk about increasing our DC by 1, it seemed a good use of ability points to get the most mileage per se and increase my saves. Now with the Dinjii cake, I can put +1 in CON (I already had a +1 CHA tome drop for me) and spend 4 action points in Greater Adaptability Constitution and bingo I have my 16 CON. I'm very happy about that, needless to say. At least until someone tells me they did that and went from 16 to 18

Just mentioning this because there seem to be a lot of people who are weighed down by the idea that some characters have HUGE advantages (that they don't), or there is only one way to do things. As the level cap goes up, those differences get smaller and smaller and the min max builds look weaker and weaker (just a theory). My first character will always have flaws, and I've learned better, but he's not gimped or inherently inferior by any means and neither necessarily are yours, new guys in the hundreds of previous posts, wherever you are now.

P.S. I haven't eaten the cake yet lol, that dinjii just looks too cool. I just may keep him forever. Oh shoot, now I'm gimped again :P

"gimped" and "huge advantages" are 2 different concepts. by and large, builds aren't gimped in DDO unless you really mess up. Your 14 con isn't gimped. A sorc with 300 hps has a huge advantage. A sorcs 2100 sp pool is not gimped, the sorc with 2600 sp has a huge advantage.

At best a 28 point min max build would have a 3 point advantage in CON, 17 vs 14 and a 32 point would have 18 vs 14. Effectively this gives only a one or two step difference since evens only count. We eat the cake, and take Greater Adaptability(if the min maxs had that) and I'm at 16, the 28 min max is at 19, still only one step difference and the 32 is at 20, still a two step. Each step is 16 hit points at lvl 16. So, in CON the only advantatge at the end using your example is 300 vs 284 vs 268. A +3 CON tome changes 2 steps for the 28 min max but only one for the 32 pointer and one for my 14 con. Now the 28 and 32 are equal and isnt that interesting. Im thinkint that cant be right?

It's not. Or you would see a bunch of sorcs running around with 268+ HP. This is simply not the case. The average is around 200. the good builds are 220+ and the HP builds are 268+. The difference at level 16 between a base 12/14 con and 16/18 con build is pretty significant in survivability of one shot damage encounters.

Yeah, there's something wrong with my math somewhere. All that thinking lol and I never considered that the developers considered all this to the point where a mob would one shot a 12/14 CON. Of course they would <stupid stupid stupid> I have lost count of the number of times I have been left with a handful of points after one or two shots and survived or been one shot, now that I think about it. Very good, those devs, in maintaining a fine balance in this game. I wonder if that cake is chocolate or fudge?

And thank you Oreg for your feedback. I always read your posts with great attention. It's people like you who keep bringing me back to the forums to learn from and bounce ideas off of and increase my enjoyment of the game.

No problem. I love the game and am always happy to discuss the nuances of it, especially the Sorcerer class. I may not always be right but that's why I come here - to gain information.
