Memory Upgrade for my PC

Looking to upgrade memory on my PC. Current specs as follows:

Component - Attributes
Memory Installed - 1 GB (2 x 512)
Maximum allowed - 4 GB* (4 x 1 GB) requires the replacement of the installed 512 MB DIMMs

Speed supported - PC2-3200 MB/sec
Type - 240 pin, DDR2 SDRAM
DIMM slots - Four
Open DIMM slots - Two

I would like to upgrade to the max 4GB and need help understanding a couple things:

- For performance reasons...does it make sense to buy memory faster than the Speed supported listed above?
- Also for performance reasons...does it make sense to buy DDR3 (for example) vs. the listed Type?

windows xp or are you vista?

your link points to a 2x512 kit, if you wanted 4 gigs and have 4 slots you would need 4x1gig or 2x2gig... (yeah simple math)

personally I dont think you would see much improvement with 4 gig over 2 gig, but you should see an improvement with 2 versus 1.

windows xp will only access approximately 3.3 gig of that 4 gig as well.

I have very little experience with vista so if you are running it, please disregard anything that just came outta my mouth

since you have 2 slots free currently you could just match the 2 ram simms you got... and get to 2 gigs easily and cheaply

I think you would end up paying a premium for something that is not required, kinda like putting pirrellis on a yogu.
