    Do I need to specialize or can I play a generalist.

    I have been looking up wizard guides to find out what direction is best suited for my wizard.

    I am playing a human and I am new to DDO but not new to DnD.

    I have never been a fan of being a wizard specialist and it seems that all the guides I have found are oriented towards picking a direction.

    1. Is a generalist a viable build – in party and solo. In a party what role do they have.
    2. What enhancements and feats are worth getting. I would get the Mental Toughness feats, toughness and extend – those are the ones I know for sure. For enhancements, I would for for intelligence and extra spell points. What else works.

    Thanks in advance. I have to say, that out of many mmorps I have played this is the best community I have ever seen. Hats off and respect!

    I think wizards make great generalists. When you need to make a choice, leaning a bit toward fire spec (enhancements, gear) isn't a bad idea, but the big advantage of playing a wizard is that you can scribe every (wiz/sorc) spell, and play around with them to find what works for you in what situation. People who want to completely hard-wire their arcanes are probably better off with sorcerors.

    I just got my generalist wizzy to 13 this weekend and he rocks. I would recomend concentrating on spell pen though with the new content.

    wizards make great generalists. My build is pretty much a generalist. The only enhancement line he has maxed out is the INT line.
    Int III
    fire/cold III
    force II
    elec/acid II
    spell pen II
    EoS III
    elf arcane II
    Improve metamagic I (heighten,max,emp)
    no critical enhancements

    feats - both mental toughness, max, empower, extend, heighten, quicken, spell pen, gr spell pen.

    I carry a wide variety of spells. Usually 1 of each damage type (cold, elec, fire, force, sometimes acid). A few will save spells, a few fort save spells, and a few CC spells. Even without being focused on any one, he can dish out enough damage when it's needed, and still land instadeath and cc spells regularly. Plus, he shoots a bow.

    um you can't specialize a wizard in DDO. Thats a PnP rule we don't have.

    You get so many feats and can change spells so often that you must be a generalist to be a good wizard.

    Specialization is a sorcerer thing in DDO. Limited feats, less spells, costly and slow spell swap, but much faster casting and more sp lean you towards that much more so then wizards.
