    Default negative energy final upgrade

    slay living guard, and deathblock

    the reason im bringing it up in a new thread is it needs to be fixed, either the proc rate needs to go up or the save does, nothing dies from it its pathetic. even on normal . dunno if the devs could check it out against mobs, but ive played against players and mobs and seen the resist effect but never a death (just wondering if u were practicing on kobolds or decent mobs).

    My Wizard's FoD spell DC is 31 and plenty of stuff dies from it, even on Elite. So, a 30 DC is pretty strong. Which leaves the following questions, that you can mostly test in PvP with a friend.

    Do you not get hit that often to make the guard process?
    Are you getting hit and the effect is just not processing often?
    When it does process, are you seeing lots of saves from attackers?
    When it does process, do the mobs have Deathward (eg., Ghaele Clerics)?

    i was hitting him in pvp on my lvl 16 sorc in 100 swings i made 4 saves no deathward on rolled no lower than an 8 tho on a 14 willsave too tired of swinging to keep trying at that point being disgusted with how low the save is.

    Lets not forget part of the humor involved in the item. Things that tend to melee also tend to have a high fortitude save.

    Dude, it's a pointless ability on a melee item anyway.

    Most creatures have high Fort that melee. And even if they didnt. Trash mobs die in seconds unless you're running with a bunch of AC tanks.

    I would just take it for the Deathblock and be happy.

    No room for complaints really. You've got every neccesary Melee status-affect immunity on ONE item.

    im just saying its pretty lame that the save is horrendous and it only procs about 1-40 hits .... thats all . wondering if the devs tested it on kobolds or actual mobs, seems to be a pointless ability

    Well, we did get Symbol of Death this module too.

    I bet it works against bats, maybe?

    Hee hee... That's actually halfway useful.

    Personally, I like taking a greatclub to the bats. I friggin love the way they tuck up their wings and roll to a stop when you splat them.

    More fun than swatting fungoes on a sunny day.

    Ok, so we know it's ~4-5% process rate (my bet on 5%). And of course it's useless versus players with ridiculously high FORT saves. As for monster saves, perhaps MrCow can help us? For now, let's assume a +20 Fort Save for a melee monster. That's a 5% process rate and a 50% kill rate versus +20 Fort save. Meaning for every 100 melee hits you take, 2 monsters will fall dead. I'd reckon that's better than the Ancient Vulkoorim Dagger (DC25, but on successful player attack). Not too bad for a bonus effect.

    Yep...confirmed this after Dane posted on the matter. I can loot that bat chest in the Vale like no other now!

    I don't know. That chest is pretty easy for me. Proof against poison belt, maximized extended blade barrier. Bats go down, I open the chest and just run away from the trogs.

    You will see I am lacking in the department of fortitude saves for recent critters. However, the Orthon and Fiend-Blood Troll are good examples for what you are looking at. If you are on elite, I estimate they will have another 4-7 fortitude save tacked on from extra HD and raised CON.

    Also, as a side note, an item like this would work fairly well on intimidation builds (along with the other "guard" shroud items).

    Wow, except for a few Elite extraplanar baddies, we're not seeing Fort saves above 20. Which means that attacking monsters should be failing their Slay Living Guard save more than making it. That's good to know! And we might see upwards of 3% death rate for attacking mobs.
