Pool of Radiance was terrible. Flee from it. Zero redeeming values.

Planescape Torment was brilliant. It starts slow, but stick with it. It's like playing your favorite novel. The story is that good.

Icewind Dale and IWD2 are excellent fighting games. Fun, replayable, and I recommend them but they are only fighting games.

BG2 is - IMHO obviously - the best computer game of all time. If you haven't played it you must, stop reading this post and go buy it. Now.

"Planescape: Torment" is the best CRPG story ever written. There is estimated to be around 800,000 words of dialogue written for the game. If you love a good book, but would like to steer the characters yourself, then play this game. Like geoffhanna said, "It's like playing your favorite novel." In fact, if you'd rather just read it like a book instead, go here: http://www.wischik.com/lu/senses/pst-book.html By the end of this game, you'll be craving so much more. You'll miss the characters, and wonder how they would have developed after the ending. You may even start calling people "berks".

"Baldur's Gate 2" is pretty awesome as well. You really can't argue this point. It has more action than "Planescape: Torment", and the story is pretty good too. You can play through it quite a few times and see wildly different stories being told. I actually enjoy the Icewind Dale series more than Baldur's Gate. If I wanted an awesome story, I'd play "Planescape: Torment". If I wanted awesome battles, I'd play "Icewind Dale 1/2" (although in "Baldur's Gate 2: Throne of Bhaal", some of those epic battles are truly EPIC). So the Baldur's Gate series falls somewhere in between those two. It is a good balance, and a good game though.

I recently reinstalled "Temple of Elemental Evil", and I'm running it with the Co8 fixes. A lot more fun than I remembered without the Co8 packs. Definitely worth a revisit.

Anybody know if some community fans have managed to make "Pools of Radiance" not suck? I'd be willing to reinstall it, if there was the hope that someone managed to unsuckify it.

He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.

    Torment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Fallout
Oblivion (if your pc can hang)
Witcher (if you can't handle NWN2 this is probably not an option for you)

    You could always ....upgrade!
