Silly Question that no one can probably answer.

Here is my gloves recipe...

Altar 1
Greater Fire Resist.... Fire + Opp + Mat

Altar 2
+2 dex skills +15 Hp ... Air + Esc + Mat (Bonus 2x/day displacement lvl 16)

Altar 3
Greater Regeneration ... Pos + Opp + Mat (Bonus = ???)


So here is the question...

If you want greater Regen you can just take it at altar 3... right? and you don't need to build up to it I assume. Thats the question. What would be the possible advantage of taking all 3 tiers of regen... get one a min + 2 a min from tier 3 +4 a min from tier 4 for a total of 7 a min?

Some abilities stack (CHA skills) and some don't (AC line). If your regen doesn't stack, taking it at 3rd tier is all you need to do.

And I believe someone did lesser and impoved regen on one item and they did not stack, though Im not going to go back and search all 1000 posts for it. Lesser was 1hp/minute and improved was 1hp/30sec.

Only reason I ask is that I read that the stat bonuses stack so I figured that the AC ones did as well or at least the lesser was required for the improved and improved for the greater. If not you just saved me a ton of time and frustration. Can someone point me to a source (dev hopefully) that has explained what stacks and what doesn't?

Yes the AC not stacking was confirmed and is noted as such in the recipe threads. The best you can get is +4 AC with the third tier upgrade.

I don't think there is any dev source on this, but if you look at the item descriptions when people post them the effects often explicitely state when they will stack with existing bonuses. If they don't say either way I would not assume they stack with each other or with other bonuses (e.g., resistances and deflection bonuses are just that and don't stack with existing ones).

Im assuming its this way so you can mix and match by order of importance to you.

No. Each level is stand alone and does not require previous levels. The only time anything is
REQUIRED to be there in a recipie is for the Combo Bonuses for 2nd and 3rd level. (ie Earth+Earth = summon & Earth+Earth+Earth Weapon = Earthgrab.

To get the effects you want, and especially to get the Combo effects you want, you may have to take a lower lever of something. In any case, its also a ranking of importance to the builder. You can have 100 stacking SP OR greater regen on an item ... not both, so you take the lesser of one and the greater of the other. The Combo effects seem to be based on only the Foci, so you could take any other positives with regen at level 3 and still get the triple positive effect. This has been demonstrated already using Earth.
