Default A Question for the High-AC Types

    Question for the High-AC types.

I know that in the Gianthold, 55 used to be the "Magic Number" for having your AC actually matter... my question is, in the new stuff (Vale and such), is there a "Magic Number" for AC anymore? I finally collected all the items I need for an uber-AC type of build, but I don't know if it's worth actually rolling him and running him, as I don't know if AC can matter anymore.

    Thanks,

I solo vale chest runs quite a bit on my 55 AC pally. Don't take a lot of damage, or have any problems, so I'm really not sure where peeps are getting the " Oh...AC doesn't matter in the Vale ". I think it's from people who don't want to put in the effort to get an AC over 40-45.

You're still going to get hit, but there's a huge diff between getting hit 40-50% of the time, and getting hit 100% of the time.

The worst seem to be the large scorpions that hit you with improved sunder then go to town. I don't recommend tanking those with AC as your sole defense.

What kind of AC are you looking at in the end? If you can get 55+ self buffed, you should have no problem in the vale or in quests on normal or hard. Some things with really high to-hit will hit you on elite, though. Earth elementals on elite, for example.

You'll need to get into the low 60s to be pretty much safe against anything.

So far the same stats seem to apply. 55+ still seems to be magic. 60+ seems to be supreme.

Awsome, I have been waiting a while to gather the last couple of items I needed to roll my Max-AC Pally/Fighter (the template for the build is in my Paladin Guide)... and I finally got the last piece last night... a Disease Immunity & Protection +5 Ring! Not that I need the Disease Immunity, but I needed the Protection +5 on a Ring.

Items I have for the guy:
    Full Set of +1 Tomes
Full Set of +6 Stat Items (STR - Bracers, Gloves, Belt, or Ring, DEX - Gloves, CHA - Cloak, CON - Belt or Neck, GFL - Ring or Belt)
    +5 Mithral Full Plate
    +5 Mithral Tower Shield
Protection +5 Ring (or a Neck, but I think the Ring will be needed)
    Chaosguarde
    Ring of Shadows

I would agree here. I run around out in the vale with a 47 AC (49 with bark pot and haste). If I'm getting smacked alot I will hit CE to get to 53/55. And for the tough mobs I hit the good old FAB to boost it to 58/59. I can also improve this if I get a pali and ranger around for aura and bark. The last couple of quests I have been able to hit as high as 63 fully buffed and move around without a hitch.
