    Default Server Latency

i played DDO back in beta, and i regret that i never purchased it when it came out.

but after the other MMO's got boring, i remembered DDO and decided to give it a spin again.
and i have managed to convince all of my local friends and family to join in as well. (a total of about 6, maybe 8 if my two other friends can find a good source of income)

anyway, im finding that through the trial that we have latency problems on our server Khyber when 4 of us play at my house the same time. one of us will be unable to move while the rest of us start to lag. when there are 3 of us online there is just the occasional lag, and no problems with 2 players.

i find its hardly in the spirit of D&D if only 2 can play at somones house, so i have been searching for the locations of the various servers on DDO, hoping to find one on the westcoast to (hopefully) reduce my latency so more of us can play at the same time. we have plenty of bandwidth, but just a slightly slower response time.

are any of the current servers on the west cost? or is there any other method to reduce the latency of our connection (we have a $200 Gigabit N router to help out what we can on our end)

You guys playing on wireless at your house or all connected to the router? If playing on wireless I am not surprised at all that 4 people causes lag.

To address your question I do not think you will find a difference on another server.

    2 wireless 2 wired.
there has never been any problem with 6-12 people on my wireless at the same time on different MMORPG's
if all the servers operate at the same latency then i will get in contact with my ISP to see if i can either get a way to get improved latency or find a new ISP with better latency.

I have three online working good on my end, but I have decent upload speeds in comparison to the average, with my DSL provider. It has been a bit rougher imo since the last mod and last night possibly the laggiest for me, but I've also have had fine stretches since. What is funny though is your story is almost exactly like mine. Same thing with beta and I brought in 4-6 players, 2 on the fence. Interested in guilding up? Not sure what level you are but we are just meager level 3'ers at this point, as we rerolled and got used to it the past two weeks. We play a few nights a week on average, that includes weekends. Don't always have to be on at the same time though by any means, but we talked about merging into some other guild to open up more options to us. Have 64-40-40-35-15 and 10 year old on the team, the 10 year old the only loose cannon of the bunch and we have him labled correctly as chaotic evil, he's our meat-shield, lol. Now what are the chances you are playing on Thelanis?

not too sure, might be some chance as my level 4 is the only concrete character so far, we ordered the game on amazon and they were supposto arrive today and apparently FedEx is going to deliver them tomorrow (******!)
i bought them all their account seeing as how DDO has a promotion for a free month if you get a friend to subscribe.

i'm using comcast cable 4mbps DL/ 320kbps UL (500KiloBytes per second download, 40 KiloBytes per second upload)
my router is the DLink DIR-655 (i probably should have said this to begin with but ohwell)

my group consists of 54,20,19,18,18,18 there are a few more but these are the only ones playing and the first (my father) doesn't even play D&D but loves MMO's.

See if you are on Thelanis... It could be your upload, I'm not sure how efficient the packets are with DDO. Someone should be able to help yah there. That usually is the difference between Cable and DSL. Cable gets you the data quicker on the download where as DSL can get more uploading and while gaming if you have a group and say a Teamspeak server, it starts to pay off a bit at that point having the better uploads. But honestly I can't say that is the problem, in general the server seemed to run quite well last night.
