    Default The /death taxi

Forgive me for pretending this is an MMORPG for a moment...

With no more xp penalty for dieing, /death became a standard means of traveling overnight.

Finish a quest in the Vale and SOP is to strip naked and /death.
I need to get to my bind point - where's the nearest tavern? I'll just /death.

While I object to these ideas quite vehemently, I'm not going to waste 10 minutes of running to avoid them. Please do something to fix this.

I agree. It's pretty sad that the death penalty was changed so that death is less desireable, but due to pointless annoyance with running through the Vale to get to Meridia, /death became standard GTP procedure overnight.

Kindof defeats the purpose of the death penalty change.

Lol, no, people don't strip. The normal way is to get a Greater Teleport to a tavern zone (such as Restless Isles or Portable Hole) and suicide there. Most characters don't have enough free slots to strip.

    You bother to strip???

It's like what, 200 plat to repair your gear after 1 death?

At least, that's my average 1 death repair bill.

GTP destination of Meridia would be a great solution!

And no item damage if you /death in a tavern.

Yeah, I'm confused here, someone shed some light on this subject.

They made it so that if you die in a public place (i.e. fall off a bridge and take falling damage to death) that your items won't take the death wear.

/death in taverns bypasses the gear damage.

Yeah, I've been disappointed to have seen this start occurring myself.

All could be fixed by SIGNIFICANTLY revamping the Teleport and Greater Teleport spells to be more useful. Right now the only time it's really used is to bypass the fight and get to Twilight Forge.

Add in the teleporters. Then make all gear carried affected by the death penalty.

Yes to the former, No to the latter.

At the very least make it so upon completing a quest in the Vale when you double recall you wind up back in Meridia.

The run to Meridia, when you know where it is, isn't too bad if you have decent striders/haste pots/clickies, but you still train a bunch of mobs to the front door and that's borderline griefing for other players who might be behind you.

The lack of teleporters, no updated locations for Greater Teleport and the problem with recalling to Meridia from the Vale after finishing a quest out there is the reason you see so many people /death while naked or in a tavern.

Also, it appears our old friend the teleport bug is back! I left House J to go into the Market and wound up in the Market...at the entrance from the Harbor instead of the other side of the House J gates!

Also, last night in Ritual Sacrifice a guildie went through a portal and wound up in the Harbor...that was very odd.

To get to Meridia why not just have a system like with Tangleroot/Splinterskull?

Once you've been there the hard way (running) you should be able to talk to a guy in the Twelve to teleport you back out to Meridia again whenever you like.

And when recalling from ANY quest in the Vale/Shroud, it should send you to Meridia as well, once you've talked to the Grandmaster inside.

Great idea. Put a djinn somewhere in the Twelve and we're good to go.

Any particular reason why all of your equipment shouldn't be affected? Or why we should reward players for frantically tearing off their gear every time they think they are going to die? It's silly not to have the penalty hit everything you carry. Plus that will make it scale better in terms of cost to higher level/excessively geared up characters.

If you are going to carry that much expensive stuff into a dangerous area you should be prepared to deal with the consequences.

    I love it.
Granted I've yet to apply my time to Mod 6, what I have I am not overly sold on it. But, we have players we want more "content" (content = things to do) So Turbine gives an Explorer area/Free Kill Zone.
And the same fools that were begging for "things to do" are probably the same pathetic fools typing /death to travel.

    I love this game...

To be clear, anywhere I've suggested changing out equipment before you die has been meant totally tongue in cheek. That's too much inventory space being occupied by junk (as it would have to be on principle) and it just isn't practical. Besides, I've been in groups that have pulled through so many near wipes before that quite often it's hard to tell if there's going to be a wipe until it's already happened.

Wouldn't it suck to equip your lesser false life robe, masterwork shield and sword on your fighter, only to get healed to full (or close to) from -9 and have to re-equip everything? Switching into junk gear just isn't an option for me...I'm too busy trying not to die and save the party when things go south to resign myself to death and just equip junk gear.

As for other stuff in the inventory taking damage...we're not just talking expensive items (like armor, other weapons, etc) we're talking wands and potions as well, you know, the little stuff that is annoying to have to replace. It is excessive to have EVERYTHING in your inventory take damage. The stuff people have equipped tends to be the stuff they care the most about/find the most useful at the time they are using it. Since your inventory is more or less extra dimensional space (how else could you carry five two-handers and three shields, etc in it?) it stands to reason it'd be cushioned from hitting the ground when you drop.

If we're going to talk about "silly"...it's "SILLY" to have all your gear take damage when you are PK'ed or FoD'ed. It's "SILLY" to have your boots take damage when you are shot fatally through the heart. It's "SILLY" to have your armor damaged when you have your head lopped off. That's just the way it is.
