I was a VIP player and had to stop playing. I just bought a brand new laptop running Windows 7 and thought I would get back into the game now that I had a system that would run the game well. I get all the way downloaded and installed and I get this error. What is the deal with it? This is a long thread with no REAL solution.
+1 for all the problems.
I would like to ask the DDO QA a question thought, Not saying you DIDN'T test this patch, but how much time did you Actually have to work with this before the higher-ups said push that build out?
(Working as QA myself for EA, Just wondering how long you guys get with each build of updates. Three days new to the job, Just wondering how QA is really going to be, from people working on a MMO.)

If a game reinstall is not an option, you could try creating a new windows account with administrator rights and see if that successfully launches DDO - this will will help determine if your normal local account permissions are incorrect.

The error message is "Check that they exist and that you have permission to write to them" correct?
As it's a 5 minute test I'd perform it myself if nothing to exclude it as being a result of the files being replaced by the patch process but inheriting incorrect permissions due to rights on folders.
Yes that is correct.
I know, trust me I've looked at it for a while, Its not that, that is the problem, I have no clue what the problem is, Even installed it in a high-end computer (family members) just to see if it would work, He actually got the same problem as i did, and he couldn't figure it out.
What needs to happen, is there needs to be a massive roll-back to U10, then DDO QA need to spend some more damned time on this, Shouldn't be the Consumers fixing a problem like this, this also should have been found, thought that would have meant putting U11 on a non-dev/tester PC and i know how well that would have gone over.
As a fellow player I can only provide further recommendations based on your feedback and one of the things with troubleshooting is also excluding what it isn't to help narrow down the root cause.
I really cannot see the update being rolled back for this particular error given the small number of issues (not to downplay the obvious affect it is having on your gaming, just being honest about the situation with many hundreds of Artificers on the live servers)
I'd therefore recommend you approach Turbine direct by submitting a ticket for them to investigate deeper and using the background knowledge of the patching process they have:

Right, I'm not try to say "Blah blah blah Fix my stuff nao DDO!" I'm just trying to figure it out myself, I love the game, and I'd rather not have to drop it because i can't get it to work.
But yeah honestly, i agree now that im thinking about it, no way the servers are getting rolled back when everyone went and BOUGHT Artificers on live not a few hours after it came out haha.
If ever there was a reason to necro a thread this could be one, Ive spent about 3 days figuring this out and I know thats something I would have prefered spending elsewhere so I'll just repeat my post to a more recent thread since this one is easier to find on google...
Well after plowing through most of this thread, Tech support's FAQ and what not heres what happened and what I did:
First I attempted to use the backup folder, got 201 errors.
Tried reinstalling, got 201 errors.
Since this might indicate corrupt files I redid the steps described above a couple of times
Eventually found the log and saw that some DLL didnt work so I upgraded another computer and copied its directory files, same
Redid the backup dir, same
Toyed around with permissions, nothing
Uninstalled, Created a new user account and installed there, nothing.
Copied all files from the computer I upgraded and replaced my own. And now I jumped into the 201 error.
After repeating many permutations of the above I unistalled, deleted remaining files and reinstalled in another directory.
Then I MANAGED TO LOG IN but windows firewall kicked in to my surprise (as I never actually activated it, using win 7 and seems it just came activated prefab so careful guys). But this isn't too much of an issue just add an exception.
So guys I hope at least one of all those solutions I just mentioned works out for you. I had a huge advantage tho, I have a USB external HDD (from a dearly missed laptop that was more powerful than my current, snif) so I always keep a backup copy of the DDO installer just in case.
Happy questing !!!
hey bro do you have facebook i got a couple of answers
im having the same issue guys
patch took a day on me lol
i tried your formula sitll dont work
Same problem. 201 error. I have to load the login screen twice to get the second one to load user name and password. Now if I close the first one I get to the game loading screen and a "you do not have current version" If I leave the first login attempt up I get the 201 error.
I tried loading back up files and re patching. No luck.

Your lack of healing amp not my problem. Please buy and use your own remove curse pots in combat, so I don't waste mana. Not my job.
Sad. I downloaded the game and all patches 3 times and still the same error. Why there is no **** fix for this ?
I have windows 7 and have now installed this game twice and wasted 3 days doing this and still got the 201 and i made sure the launcher was the right one. Now if there is a way to fix this i will be happy to play and i already did the backup folder move and still nothing. If someone can help me that would be great otherwise i'm so posting on facebook how crappy the people who made this game and do the maintenance on are complete idiots. and yet again i got the error just now. Please help. nevermind this game is not worth playing, i'll stick with neverwinter
