Game Error [201] Can't open the data files. Check that they exist and that you have permission to write to them. The program will now exit. [201]

I use Windows XP
I let the launcher to did the update
I can login, select the server, it runs (or let me skip) the intro, then it appears this when it's on the CLEANING UP OLD CONNECTION on green at the screen.

It sounds as if the patch may not have applied correctly. Please copy all of the files from the Backup folder inside your main DDO folder to the main DDO folder and then start the launcher. This should force the launcher to re-apply the patch to your system.

Had the same issue as above, but when I tried your fix Yeti, it made it worse. I got a whole page of error messages. Having to re-install the whole game.

All that fix does is reload the files from before you patched, so I'm not sure why it would cause MORE errors. Are you running on an XP user account with admin privileges?

Negative. Windows Vista. I unchecked the "Run Program as Administrator" before I even logged tried to run the launcher. I am assuming now, that only the files in the base directory (not the folders too) is all that should have been copied.

Just to be clear, until the game has successfully patched, and using the new launcher (more specifically the TurbineInvoker.exe) in Vista you will likely need to leave the run as admin checked. If you unchecked this before you patched, it may be why you had the issue.

It didn't work. The launcher was uptdated again but none of the files of the game were downloaded and it still says the same message about the error.

All Options were tried. Still getting game error 201. This game is gone. Thank you for your support. What a great waste of a day.

I got the 201 error too.

I pre-patched yesterday. Logged in today. It finished the log-in.

Then I signed in user/password. Then it went to the load screen, got to the splashscreen page, then crashed back to the user/pass sign in noting the 201 error.

I tried user/pass again - same deal.

Then I shut it all down - the launcher, the systray icon - everything.

Restarted the aplpication. It applied 1 more udpate this time ... then it worked fine.

See if you dont get similar results?

I even restarted my computer and tried to do the backup thing thrice. It's not working, I will download the pre-patch and see if I can force a repatch from it. Otherwise I think I will have to uninstall and install back again... I really hope that its not the case or it will mean another lost day and I play way too few already...

That folder does not exist on my hard drive. I have an Application Data folder, but it only has an Adobe and a Microsofot folders inside not a Turbine or a DDO folder. I even checked inside the folders for All Users and the other Username that exists on my computer, none has said folder.

Oh and the route is like this C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data

No local settings in the Username folder.

Make sure that Hidden files are enabled. While you have the My Computer window open, click on Tools, then Folder Options, Click the View tab and in the box at the bottom make sure that in the section "Hidden files and folders" the dot is next to "Show hidden files and folders" then click Ok.

I did, I wasn't able to see such folder anyway.

I also finished to download the pre-patch and patch it from there. When I run the launcher, itdownloads around 720 files and then go to the username/pass, but it's still crashing at the same point once I try to log in the server.

There has to be a Local Settings folder, it's a folder that tracks many different things in Windows. It is where the logs for our launcher are stored that I need to look at in order to determine what issue the launcher is having. The only other option would be to reinstall from scratch. But this sounds more like a permissions issue than an actual corrupt data issue.

Ok I finally found it, different languages on the Operative System doesn't help at all... and some weird issue about the Show hidden files as well. Anyway here is the most recent log

If you've already double checked any firewall/av software, made sure that the directories are not read only, tried the backup files and still can't play you may indeed want to try reinstalling.

Well the directories inside Turbine are all read only, but if I uncheck the box and click ok, or even apply and then ok. The second I check they are read only AGAIN.

Edit: and I shut down the Firewall/AV to make sure it was not that.
