Thumbs down Cannot run this app w/administrator privileges...

I'm running Windows Vista. Never had a problem until today. Now I can't get on because as soon as I try to launch the game it gives me an error: You cannot run this application with administrator privileges. Please try again without running as an administrator.

This is MY pc why the heck would I want to run on any other level other than as an admin?? Do not refer me to the Vista sticky telling me to check the 'run as administrator' box because that doesn't work. Uninstalling the game didn't work. Live tech support had no answers. I'm getting ready to deactivate my two accounts because I'm getting absolutely no help at all.

I had the same thing happen and unchecking the run as administrator on the dndlauncher.exe in the program files/turbine/d&d online fixed it completely.

The sticky actually mentions that you need to uncheck that option. With the new launcher, you can no longer run the program as an administrator specifically. You will need to uncheck the option to run as administrator in TurbineLauncher.exe and TurbineInvoker.exe.

On both TurbineLauncher.exe and TurbineInvoker.exe (and dndlauncher.exe just to make sure as if you are using a shortcut it may still be pointing to that file)?

Yes, I made sure that the 'run as admin' boxes were unchecked on all three.

You shouldn't have to change the shortcut as the dndlauncher just forwards to the correct file now. However, the correctly file to start the game would be TurbineInvoker.exe. For the sake of completeness, please reboot your computer to ensure that the patching/update process has finalized.

RangerMaya, please as a test create a new standard user account in Vista and attempt to connect.

I created a standard account and it is patching right now, which is farther than I got on my normal account. But I don't want to have to log on to the standard account just to play the game. What is being done to fix this??

This would mean your UAC settings are keeping the game from launching correctly in the other Windows profile that you were using. This means that your UAC settings were likely modified at some point. Without knowing what exactly was changed or modified, it is very difficult to tell what may be causing the issue.

I have not changed a thing. NOT ONE THING. The only thing that happened was that I tried to log on after MOD 6 went live. Sorry if I sound frustrated...but I am. I'm just getting a little irked at being told that it's a problem with my system...which was running the game just fine before the mod.

    Default Same problem here

Same thing here, tried the fix, this on a brand new install of vista, where none of the boxes were ever checked in the first place. Creating a standard user account now to see if it works, ill post back with results. If there's any way to get it working on my admin account, i'd like to know it. Thanks.

    Default Maybe this will help

Ok, I run in administrative mode, though I don't use a password to lock it down, still, it might apply. Since the last few patches, I had to make an adjustment in order to launch and connect/update properly. I had to set my startup icon with the option as "run as administrator", odd, since I am the administrator, but none the less, it was necessary to do so. It might be that some of you having this issue with admin accounts also had to change this.

The new module patch did not refresh the desktop icon, it would still be checked to administrator, which does give you the error you mentioned. Also, as a precaution, in deference to another issue with the patch, you should

I fixed this issue by going into the

    c:/turbine/dungeons & dragons online - stormreach

    folder

#1 Delete the file dndclient.exe (do not delete any other files) Run your program launcher as usual, it will download 1 file (dndclient.exe) ensuring you have the proper build/version to match the server.

#2 On dndclient.exe, right click and go to properties - set to administrative priviledges. Click ok.

#3 Start from program launcher/icon as usual, agree to nag screen, play ddo.

    Troubleshooting time 20 mins

    Actual fix time 3 mins.

Note, in your situation, I suspect that you also set the three files listed in the vista post to administrator, you might want to switch them back to non-admin setting, those may also cause the admin mode error.
    Fixed.

    Hope this helps

One of the main reasons RangerMaya that you need to use a non admin account - is Vista, not us unfortunately Vista is designed to not have any user which actively uses the computer logged in as an admin, its a security feature. The problem you are experiencing is due to the way there are so many security/useraccount checks in vista. For many people to play as admin accounts under vista (across MANY different games) you need to disable UAC completely, which we do not recommend. You are better off just using a non-admin account for day to day computing.

    Hey Guys,

I had the exact same problem. Fresh install of Vista, newly downloaded and updated ddo. It worked last night when I opened it right after it updated having not closed the launcher. Then when I tried to load it again today I kept getting the error about not running in admin mode. I triple checked all three listed .exe and the shortcuts, none of them had ever been set to run as admin.

Then after reading the fix posted earlier about how the previous issue was resolved when vista required that the option run as admin had to be checked. I had an idea.

I deleted my dndlauncher shortcut from my desktop. Then I checked all three exe files again for not having run as admin. And then instead of sending the client.exe or the launcher to my desktop, I sent the invoker. Once I did that I checked the shortcut and again it did not have run as admin. I then was able to launch the invoker short cut with no errors.

So far vista is getting a big frowny face from me.

    Hope this helps you guys.
