    Arrow Tell Tolero #4

That's right, it's time once again to talk to Tolero!

    How it works:
I'll be asking you questions, and here in my thread, you tell me: What comes to mind; what you think; how you feel; etc, as it relates to the question(s) at hand. If you missed the previous week's questions, they'll be listed below and you can answer them here too. Thank you so much to everyone for offering their answers!

    Ground Rules:
Before we get started, let's lay down three ground rules if you're going to participate in the thread. These ground rules also have a few samples to help clarify participation:

#1 - The single most important rule to remember while participating in this thread is:
    No personal attacks.
If you disagree with the opinion of another participant, that's fine, but no one can make anyone agree to their opinion. Thus, please refrain from commenting on the personal qualities of others who offer their responses to the question(s). Personal attacks go against forum guidelines. Questions asked will be subjective, and some users will have a lot related to their opinion, while others may only define things in short phrases. All forms are acceptable.
    Hypothetical Example:
Tolero "Do you like ice cream?"
Player 1 "I hate ice cream because it's too tough to scoop"
Acceptable "I like it. It's not that bad to scoop once you let it sit on the counter for a little bit before you try to dip it Player 1."
Acceptable "I like it but I have the same problem as Player 1. What brand is it Player 1?"
Acceptable "I don't think it's too hard, I never have any problem with it. I like ice cream."
    Unacceptable "That's cause you're a noob..."
Unacceptable "You don't have enough experience with scooping to be talking about how difficult it is"
Unacceptable "How about you back that opinion up with some numbers. If you can't prove it don't bring it here"

Everyone has the right to offer their response to the question(s), whether they have scientific data to back up their feelings, or they simply just "feel" a certain way towards the question(s).

#2 - Participate as well as discuss.
If you would like to join in the discussion, please be sure to offer your response to the questions as well, in addition to your conversation with any other thread participants
    Hypothetical Example:
    Tolero "What's your favorite color?"
    Player 1 "Blue"
    Player 2 "Green"
Acceptable "Purple... hey Player 2, how come you like Green?"
Unacceptable "hey Player 2 how come you like Green?"

Please be sure to take the time to offer your own opinion of the question(s) before you engage in a discussion about other people's opinions in the thread.

#3 - Don't recycle the above hypothetical examples in your responses as it spams the thread.
    -------------------------- Let's Get Started! --------------------------

If you missed last week's questions, you're welcome to answer them now in addition to this week's:

    Question 1
How did you first hear about DDO?

What do you find yourself spending the most time doing when you're not questing?

    Question 3
What is the most important feature a game can have to make it enjoyable for you?

    This week's question(s) are:

    Question 1
What is your favorite DDO creature and why?

Question 1 - What is your favorite DDO creature and why?
Giants. Because I play rangers and we don't like giants.

Question 2 - How often do you play DDO?
Looks away from question asker and mumbles *daily*

Question 3 - What was the most difficult aspect about DDO when you were a new player?
Converting from a P&P mindset to a DDO mindset for the rules.

Things worthy of Standing Stone going EXTREME PREJUDICE™ on.:
    • Epic and Legendary Mysterious ring upgrades, please.
    • Change the stack size of filigree in the shared bank to 50. The 5 stack makes the shared bank worthless for storing filigree in a human usable manner.
    • Fixing why I don't connect to the chat server for 5 minutes when I log into a game world.
    • Fixing the wonky Lightning Sphere and Tactical Det firing by converting them to use alchemist spell arcing.
    • Redoing the drop rates of tomes in generic and raid loot tables.

    1. Tie between the black/blue/white dragons and the beholder. These creatures are just so iconic and turbine has done an exceptional job at implementing them. I would love to see more dragons and different types of beholders. Especially another red dragon encounter, Velah just doesn't do it for me.

    2. Too often, every chance I get.

    3. The most difficult aspect when I was a new player was the social panel. I started during Head Start, and it's been revamped since then. It should be much easier for new players.

    Question 1
What is your favorite DDO creature and why?

Still gotta go with Velah, just cause I love dragons and she was my first

    Question 2
How often do you play DDO?

At this point, it's about 2-3 times a week for about 2 hrs at a time. (So, 4-6 hrs a week)

    Question 3
What was the most difficult aspect about DDO when you were a new player?

Definitely figuring out the UI - how to hotbar actions and set up my hotbars in a way that was easy for me to use.

*Edit* I would absolutely **** myself if we could get a dragon encounter where the wyrm is able to fly around. I'm thinking a L20 raid boss

    Question 1
What is your favorite DDO creature and why?
Giants, they are fun to fight, I guess I am just a simple girl at heart.

    Question 2
How often do you play DDO?
As often as real life will allow, and that is not enough

    Question 3
What was the most difficult aspect about DDO when you were a new player?
Learning what stacked - what did not. what elemental buffs were and what they where used for and good grief, trip, tanglefoot indeed.

    Question 1
What is your favorite DDO creature and why? Hmm, I see you said "DDO" and not "D&D". As a DM I just loved using the Carrion Crawler in my dungeons definately my all time favorite to throw at low level pcs, but in DDO I'd have to say Velah the red dragon. I nearly pee'd myself with excitment the first time I saw her. I think she is my favorite because of the epic feeling she gave me. Also I was impressed with her shear size in relations to the pcs. I think fighting a dragon thats head is as tall as your character really added to the immersion factor.

    Question 2
How often do you play DDO? The first year I played daily, now after a little break I play 2-3 times a week or as time permits.

    Question 3
What was the most difficult aspect about DDO when you were a new player? Finding Roleplaying groups. Now that I have met quite a few fellow roleplayers its not such a problem, but as a newbie it was very discouraging. This is a mmorpg after all and carrys the license of the big daddy of all roleplaying games.

    Question 1
How did you first hear about DDO?

my friend called me up and made me download it a few months after live. We had played dnd a lot when we were younger.

    Question 2
What do you find yourself spending the most time doing when you're not questing?

Unfortunately it is spent trying to maintain toons inventories and move things around. A central bank account would make it so easy. Also having to run everywhere to try to restock and level.

    Question 3
What is the most important feature a game can have to make it enjoyable for you?

    randomness.

    This week's question(s) are:

    Question 1
What is your favorite DDO creature and why?

    female elves...cause I am a guy

    Question 2
How often do you play DDO?

down to a few times a week. sometimes more, sometime less. Less as time between new content is expanded

    Question 3
What was the most difficult aspect about DDO when you were a new player?

understanding what a lot of the skills and feats a character uses as he levels. Lot of rerolls due to poor or no manuals on character development and poor dexcriptions

    The Giants.

Every chance RL will let me. My Wife plays so I am guaranteed at least a duo.

Understanding the difference in the rules between PnP and DDO. The last time we played PnP it was AD&D. Now its 3.5.

    1. I dig the Gelatinous Cube

    2. I play anywhere from 12 hours a day to 12 hours weekly. I have unlimited flexibility in how much (or as of late, how little) I play.

    3. The most frustrating aspect of this game is being forced to group with some tool to accomplish a task. I thought at the time (and still feel this way) that this was a monumental mistake to make the game so group-oriented. I do not advocate a solo-only MMO (or where grouping is not required) but I do feel that making things too group-centric has been a key reason for such dismally high churn rate.

In DDO, the skill-spectrum is far too vast to try and lump people together in the same group. Playing basketball in pickup groups is great for some, but any player will tell you that team play is a whole different game. While the results of a pickup group may be congruent to a regimented team, the styles are completely different. To me (and I suspect many others as well), one style is far more enjoyable than the other.

The blue dragon. Great job on the artwork/modeling.
    Question 2
How often do you play DDO?
Almost every day for at least a couple of hours, unless I'm out of town.
    Question 3
What was the most difficult aspect about DDO when you were a new player?
Money. I started out as a cleric, and it was probably 6 months after I started in headstart before I even broke 40k platinum. Usually I had a lot less than that.

    1. I'll go with Giants (including ogres and trolls). They are simple and fun. I would have said dragons but we don't really have any...

    2. Every day, for hours and hours

    3. Understanding the initial rules of the game coming from a non-PnP background but i picked it up very fast, wasn't very difficult but the most difficult

    Question 1
What is your favorite DDO creature and why?
A.) Zombies - Slow moving, easy to kill things that don't have a great deal of abilities or resistances.

    Question 2
How often do you play DDO?
A.) I try to hop on and play every day. Even if it means just sitting and looking at the Auction House.

    Question 3
What was the most difficult aspect about DDO when you were a new player?
A.) Twitch skills. Other MMO's I was used to, you attacked, waited for a response, and attacked again. In the combat field you have to be prepared to jump away, or even run for your lives and hope the rest of the party saves you. You have to make a snap decision on the fly on whether you think you can win or that there's not a snowball's chance in hell.

Much of the game requires you make quick, precise jumps without errors. Or you have to jump for the ledge and hit it just right to catch it. It drives me nuts. Like the Pit. It reminds me of Super Mario Brothers on Crack.

Jumping from pipe to pipe, fighting trogs, and blasting them with fireballs at range. Just to hit switches at the top. Drow in Full Plate do not jump very well. That's why I want the fly spell, reverse of feather falling. It's in game people, gimme.

    Question 3
What was the most difficult aspect about DDO when you were a new player?
    1) Nothing really stands out above the crowd. Though, there are two monsters that definitely fall into my "Least Favorite" category. I'm incredibly disappointed by DDO's presentation of Warforged Titan(s) and the "Quori Stalker" that shows up in VoN2. Both of these things for me are very iconic Eberron monsters and DDO's version of them are drastic departures from the actual monsters.

    2) My interest in games, and therefore how much time I spend playing them, cycles a lot. DDO interest tends to peak as new modules are released, though of late (since Mod 4) I've been kind of on a downcycle. I play anywhere from 0-6 hours a week lately, though things might pick back up again in Mod 6. In all probability, I really ought to still be on the "break" I took last summer. I largely came back to participate in the User Written Game Guides Contest.

    3) I'm going to concur with people who said "Having to group with people who were not fun to play with." That's probably always been my least favorite aspect of DDO. And really, I probably ought to get a "static group" of people to play with.
Have a question about the Eberron Setting?
    Ask a Loremaster.

    Question 1
What is your favorite DDO creature and why?

Kobolds. I still like to run kobold assault with my main.

    Question 2
How often do you play DDO?

Not as much as I would like. Once or twice a week. Sometimes less.

    Question 3
What was the most difficult aspect about DDO when you were a new player?

Learning the new rules (last played was AD&D) then learning the diference between 3.0 and 3.5 and DDO rules sets.
