Default I would love to see Snow!!!

Much of the continent of Xen'drik seems tropical -- tropical to moderate in climate.

    And I love it.

However, it would also be nice - it would be wonderful, rather - to see a large area with snow. Lots of snow. The kind of snow where you make tracks in it as you run through it. With periodic snowfalls (just like we have periodic rainfalls now).

Any thoughts on this? Any devs considering a snow-zone?

Just thought I'd ask... I mean, where are those occasional snow wolves coming from anyway (not to mention the ice flensers)? This would be a great opportunity for all sorts of new monsters. Can anyone say Frost Giants?!!!

It would certainly involve some kind of travel to another part of Eberron, but, hey, there's lots of travel in the game already, so why not?

I always had the impression that Xendrik was an equatorial region and therefore would not really have a snow area. Maybe MysticTheurge will come by and share his knowledge of the continent as I am going from vague memories of the world map.

Well the area of Stormreach is in the equatorial zone of Eberron, so much of it's environs are lust & tropical. The continent of Xen'Drik is huge, however... and much of it exists near the southern polar region. However we've only explored the Northern most tip of Xen'Drik - even in the quests that take us furthest from Stormreach. Adding a jaunt to a snowy region would be possible & I'd love to see it as much as everyone would - but they'd need a good reason for sending us so far beyond the city. After all, most of our quests center on threats to the city itself... and going to the polar region is quite a ways off.

The green box is the areas we've explored thus far. So, we have a lot of ground to cover. Lots of possibilities.

It would be easy to design a quest that would send us that far ... so and so boss plans on attacking the city, we interfere with said plans and he retreats thru a portal to the far south and we go after him. Mabye do a prison break and the fugitive hides out in a lair down there ploting his revenge and we have to go capture him again. Just a couple quick rather lame ideas off the top of my head ... give me time and I could prolly come up with a pretty good story line to send us down for an entire mod kind of like the desert.

Well, Ice Flensers come from Risia. But that aside, you make a good point.

We've explored a lot more than that green box. Check where Menechtarun is on this map. And watch your loading screens when you go to "travel" quests. We get pretty far out there.

You'll also notice there's a lot of room on Xen'drik for "snow" adventures.

Edit -- As a side note: Maps of Xen'drik are always approximations. There are features to the continent that make true mapping of the place almost impossible. It might even be more appropriate to say that Xen'drik maps are nothing more than "guesstimations."

Well - yeah, I did forget the Sands.
That's what I get for only thinking of the load-screen when going to Tempest/Threnal/ect... hehehe

    What? They have time/space distortions?

Could be. Large portions of the continent are wracked by the magical aftermath of the Giant's war with the Quori. Consider it to be magical "radiation."

And remember when the Postern Wilds magically became the Cerulean Hills? MT said that kind of stuff really happens in Eberron/Xen'drik.

Maybe they need to build a new city? someplace for us all to branch out from... Have a "protect the caravan" type quest to get there or back, every time (maybe an easy mode once you've done it on elite), and it could be in the snowy regions of the continent.

there's all kinds of ways to implement snowy adventures... I'm sure they'll get to it eventually.

When the dragons decimated Xendrik they left several curses in place to prevent another rise of the giant empire

    1. Bloodlust: If a society or group gets too large, they will enter a bloodlust and start attacking each other. This is too prevent the giants from banding together in too large a group and reorganizing
    2. Travelers curse: this basically has time and space distorted so that travelling is erratic, meaning a 1 day trip could suddenly take weeks, or the reverse could happen. This is too keep people apart.
3.Changing weather: Weather can magically change in xendrik overnight. One day you ar elooking at a lush jungle, and the next day it is frozen solid for a few miles arounf, then back again.

This is why the giant and drow are always found in small numbers, and all large cities have been abandoned

    Sweet!

It looks like just beyond the far southern end of Menechtarun the snow begins.

Cool. And yes, I was actually asking seriously. The only other part in a 'setting" I knew of that had that were the elves and elven gates to evermeet in Forgotten Realms.

Question (as this isn't answered in your thread): aging due to the curse. Does the person age as based on Xendrick as a whole, or age as their given perception of time?

Well the Curse isn't necessarily something that affects Xen'drik as a whole. And the details aren't, well, detailed.

I would assume that you age based on your perception of time and that the Curse is actually slowing or quickening your movement and/or folding and bending space somehow to get you places faster or slower. But the opposite could be true too, you might feel as though it had been weeks or months only to find out that it had been a few hours.

But overall, it's mostly for plot potential. The expedition that left last week and shows up tomorrow 20 years older makes for a good story. But so does the expedition that seemed to take a few hours only you show up back in Stormreach and everyone you know has died of old age.

And if there's one thing that's consistently true about how the Curse works it's that it's inconsistent.

    I'd love a snow quest.

Maybe an expedition into some mountains ... or like a mountain barrier, or like the peaks of a mountain barrier.

    With rayguns.

    Yeah, that's the ticket.

Kidding aside, a quest that takes us to a mountain top, maybe to assault a fortress... now that'd be fun.

Yeah, a quest through snow would be awesome - but an outdoor explorer area with mountain passes to traverse and what not...that'd be even better! Add Frost Giants and Frost Giant Jarls as well as some other arctic critters!

It'd be nice to zone in and have to make your way through a tundra to a camp or small town, kind of like you have to do in the Vale to get to Meridia.

    Umm...no...

The Titan has all the freaking "lasers" we need.

Assaulting a fortress, like it looked like you got to do in some old screenshots a while ago...that would be pretty sweet. Maybe a Frost Giant stronghold where you get trapped in their dungeon in the lower level and have to take out their pet Remorhaz and fight your way to their Jarl?
