i heard about it, but didnt even think it was in production, let alone ready for the bigscreen! If what you say is true, boy I hope they did a good job, that is an awesome trilogy!
The movie is really bad, the dialog is pretty cheesy at times and the animation is some of the worst i've ever seen, it reminds me of the old hobbit movie from the 80's it's that bad on production.
Really bummed me out as i was hoping it would be a great movie but they completely dropped the ball with it.
I knew it was being done and would be released soon, but didnt know it was this soon. As a Huge Dl fan I can only hope it wont be bad. I had hoped with the success of LOTR and the abundence of fantasy movies out lately that the Braniacs at WOTC would figure out that with some 200 novels and a fan base that has been around for over 20yrs they would see a possible franchise of films..but alas no.. we are pushed back to animated and without any fanfare. I have been reading the DL world since 1990 and took the Chronicles with me to desert storm, i pains me to see something i have come to enjoy so much more or less deserted by the company that owns it.
I hoped with a few big names voicing characters that it might draw more attention in the media.
ONE CAN HOPE..
I know i will go see it or buy it if its a direct to video release. and I guess if even one person becomes a fan from it i will be happy.
anyone intrested in reading the books feel free to ask any question, or which book you should read etc.. I cant say enough how great the world of Ansalon is. To bad we havent had a DL game since way back when.
so you think you can out drink a dwarf...... Wanna Bet??
That's too bad, Dragonlance has serious possibilities (when it comes to rivaling LotR or Narnia though, on that scale I'd rather see something from the Shannara trilogies first).

It's animated. How good could it be? As long as this is a starting point to get the series into a live action movie, who cares if the animation isn't the best visual graphics I've ever seen. I guarentee it doesn't suck as bad as the first LOTR animation and look how that turned out.
It's just cool after 20 something years of waiting to finally see something and compare it to the imagination of the books.

Yeah, I can't really imagine a decent animated movie coming out of our part of the world (although I wouldn't mind if they got someone like ABe Yosh/itoshi to work on it; Texhnolyze ftw).

Here's a link to the 'offical' DL site. Has trailers.
http://www.rogersplus.ca/frm_externa...movie%2Ecom%2F
I've said it before, I'll say it again. I don't have high hopes of it being good. When they announced the actors doing the voices, I could have gouged my eyes out.
Now after watching the trailer, all I can say is: I stopped watching He-Man/Dungeons and Dragons cartoons a long time ago. (Ok, so I still catch the odd D&D cartoon now and again to remind myself of how corny they were. ) This looks like it's from that era.
Two major complaints:
-W.T.F. is up with two animation styles? It looks terrible.
-Takhisis in her dragon form has the five heads, they got that right. But as far as I have ever read or heard, they do not all breath fire, so why am I seeing all her heads breathing fire? Was it too hard to animate each dragon breathing its respective breath weapon?
I agree animation is far better than live action for something like this as they can take original artwork and use it as inspiration, but this isn't it, for me. I'll stick to my books.

Hollywierd seems to think that just because something has an almost cult following, any trash they put out will be accepted. I will probably Netflix it just to say "I was sorry I watched it" because I did enjoy the books and have watched the LotR animations, the DnD cartoon series, and the (should have gone straight to DVD) Eragon movie. But based on the trailer I will most likey wait till it hits the discount rack instead of rushing right out to see it.

Ouch!
I can do better...
Kickboxer 2
Death Wish 4
Need I go on?....
I am holding to hope that it will at least give a decent showing.
They stumbled with Dungeons and Dragons
but did better with the second movie.
But I am worried. I hope it looks pretty good.
This is a bit off topic but...For the reccord:
If you are referriing to the Hobbit, (and The return of the King)
They were done to be family movies...
Hence the singing, the cutesie animation, and silly effects.
They may have also suffered from a lack of budget I believe,
I may be wrong about that, I am not sure.
Thats why there was no seccond one, they may have
also counted on the Ralph Bakshi movie to fill in the for the second book.
I would have to check production and release dates to be sure.
(if you are talking about Ralph bakshi's Movie)
The problem with Ralph Bakshi's LOTR was that he ran out of money;
this can be confirmed on Snopes I believe, and he tried to reach to far to fast.
I believe he had hope to cover all THREE books at ONCE.
He had HOURS of rotoscope footage he had done and did not want to waste it.
so he used it for the battle at Helms Deep.
He cut the movie Short because he lost funding.
What he should have done was back-track, Save the footage,
include the encounter with the treant, Tom Bombadil, and the barrow Wights
this encounter was critical to the plot, and set the stage for the battle with the
Witch King in the third Book!
This would have also presented a much cleaner movie.

Guess you guys didn't see the stuff on Wesley Snipes playing Drizzt. I can't really picture him in that role.

I will agree with everyonea bout the poor quality of the animaion and the odd combo of the Crisp CG and the 70's cell animation.
It would have been wonderfull in one form or another, but they possibly thought the cg would make people take it seriously....but then why not the main characters?
It reminds me alot of the poor quality of the X-men cartoon. Not only was the story a constand mess, but the direction was a nightmare.
I will watch this movie at least once. I just hope it is better than the Dr Stange and Iron Man cartoons...even by a bit would be nice.
