Default Tell me a story Papa DDO

Here is my take on what needs fixed in DDO. Give a more coherent storyline which involves the players in the history of Stormreach and Eberron. I haven't played PnP since before 3.0 rules and came into the game completely blind. So take my opinion for what it's worth. Perhaps people who have been playing PnP have a better background on the lore of the world we play in and for that reason they are better connected to the game. But I really have no idea the overall scheme of what forces I'm fighting against or why.

PnP was always about being a player in a story. In DDO, other than killing things for loot and XP, I really don't know how the different quests lines are related to each other. Where is this Lord of Deeps who in the first quest I was to be made a sacrifice for? Is he the guy in intro movie that rises out of the water? Why is he coming out of the water? Is he Eberron's version of Neptune come to enforce his will upon us? Is he an invading ruler or the strong arm of a yet stronger force? How does he connect to Velah and House K...etc, etc...

Again take my opinion for what it's worth. Maybe I'm missing something or not reading my quest dialogue enough. I left WoW to come play this for many valid reasons and I have many gripes with the design of WoW...but in that game I did feel like I was part of an on-going storyline.

There's a lot missing from the game in terms of Lore.

There may be... other ways to find it, but it would be nice(r) if it more available in game.
Have a question about the Eberron Setting?
    Ask a Loremaster.

Thanks for the link, I have read some of your guide in the past and it's rather informative. And I agree 100% that the story should be more available in game. It's just a shame that there are several decades of PnP history to tap into and the writers and devs for Turbine haven't done more to involve the players. I don't want to be spoon fed the story, but at the same time every time I logged into WoW I knew who the enemy was.

I agree. I was mighty disappointed when I learned DDO didn't have a coherent plot. Mighty disappointed, indeed.
I mean, heck, even Guild Wars had a plot, crappy though it may have been.

thought the giant coming out of the water in the intro movie was the Stormreaver...

the Lord of the Deeps is probably The Dragon Below.

There are a few decent stories in DDO. I'm a fan of the velah/stormreaver plotline personally (especially if you catch the updates that are outside of the game: the translated message, and a couple dev fictions.

Never really had the patience to read the entire WW/STK/Threnal line though...

I believe that title generally refers to The Devourer.

Remember when Jacoby Drexelhand (Prophet of the Devourer) tells you that your death will call the "Lord of the Deeps" to Stormreach.

I am hoping this game is a tweak for the secret release of Forgotten Realms: The Sword Coast mmo =)
Main: Illuminati (Halfling Iron Monk), Stonewolf (Dwarf Pally), Vyking (TWF Barb), Illuminatrix (Batchick), Illumino (Drow Ranger), Fuji (Human Monk)
