Default Do you actually use the Search function on the AH.

As it's currently implemented, the Auction House only has one variable on the search function that limits the levels of the items displayed. The theory is that if you're looking for a particular item, you can eliminate items that do not fall in that level range to make the list shorter so that you can find your specific item easier.

I have a few problems with this that range from not necessarily knowing what level item I need, to the thought that other types of variables could be more useful. Let's say I need a +3 con item at lvl 14. Since I can use any level item at 14, then I can really only eliminate those items that fall below the +3 stat requirement, and I honestly couldn't tell you what that was, so I have to search through the entire list.

I also think that there's a better way to search for items. Every item has the possibility for a +modifier, a prefix, a base item type, base item type material, and a suffix. Outside of that, it's either a named item or a bugged item. I personally think that being able to search for a dex item or an intel item, transmuting or holy, pure good or true chaos, etc. would be much much easier. Now there could be either a dropdown for each variable, or there could be a tree style progression on the left hand side that continues the Jewelry -> Bracers that that exists currently into Jewelry->Bracers->Dexterity or Greatsword->Holy->Pure Good would simply be more useful.

So I just want to know if anybody actually uses the level variable on the AH as it currently exists in game, or if there are better suggestions as to how something like this could be implemented.

I do use the search-by-level function, but agree that a few more breakdowns would help in some areas.

Clubs seperated in to clubs and sceptres, for one.

Collectables are a mess atm... etc.

It wouldn't be the highest priority of things I'd like to see, but some day.

I use it all the time; mostly the items I'm looking for are within a specific level range so it makes them easier to find (although a better search method would be very much appreciated...).

    Default searching...

i use search quite a bit, and buyout only marker.

wish could just search by keyword though. and choose to either search within a category (swords, weapons, etc) or across categories. i mean, sometimes i need to look for a specific plus weapon slashing. sometimes it must be a specific weapon. sometimes i need a wizardry item... don't care what it is on. so keyword sould really be helpful. could really get as broad or specific as you need.

    Definitely agree.

When I'm searching for a new weapon for a character, and I want to find one for a specific niche (e.g. a 1-handed greater giant bane, martial OK, no exotic) it's quite a lot of searching, and when I get to the end I need to consilt written-down notes as to where the best value one was.

I use the level searches but would be nice to narrow things down within item groups further.

Yeah, I use the search a lot. Especially since I just started some new characters on a new server and I've been looking for some useful gear for low level characters. But I do agree that there needs to be some way to search for specific mods. If I need a ghost touch weapon, I don't want to have to search every single weapon type.

it would really help if the sort feature was by the whole dataset and not just the current page.

I use the search by Level, and typically by Buy Out as well, every time I use the AH. I'd love to see more options added to the Search option, like maybe key-word search - but I imagine that that would be a pita to make functional.

I use it all the time. I would love a text search as well though.

I use the level range all the time, but mainly just to sort out all the low-end items I wouldn't want to use. Generally, I have my searches from level 8-14, and that sorts out about half of the items available, making it much easier scan for anything good. I also use the level range when I'm looking for an item my lower level characters can use, and I want the best item possible at that level.

I do agree there should be more ways to narrow down a search, but for me, it's not a high priority.

I use the level range a LOT.

I tend to know what value each enchantment should be(the non-variable ones) and so by narrowing my focus to one level I can pick out items that should be very good for that level. For example, if I do a search for Longswords level 4-4 and see a +2 Flaming PG one you can bet it is RR. I'll quickly look at it and see if it is a race that will match up to a character I have. My WF Wallop has been looking for warhammers and doing this I have found a TON of RR: Warforged warhammers so I am going to be a little twinked out with him. They were cheap too!

The problem comes about once you are at level 10+. Now you are likely not looking at "pure" items. If you need a +3 Con item and are just under using a +5 Con item then a +3 Con with a handy affect wouldn't hurt. This means +3 Con Balance +3 or something like that which you have to hover over to see as a +1-2 Con Balance +X also reads "Health Belt of Balance" and is the same ML. In that case, yes having more search variables would be nice, like keyphrase searches.

    Always!

For the future, I would like to see a search dropdown menu for weapon property and/or weapon + enhancement. Something like search for all Vorpal or search for all +5 weapons.

I don't think i ever look at the auction house without using the serach options. Admittedly they are very basic and could use a lot of improvement, but somthing is better then nothing.

Obviously the more options they add the better, but i key word search would be awesome. For example i could search for "Devotion V" and it would bring up and item that had "devotion V" anywhere in the description or name. That be awesome.

I think it would also change the economy as far as the auction house is concerned because things would be easier to find.

    Arrow AH Search

I use the Ah a lot and know what I'm looking for, having said that then the AH Search is sufficient.

I'd hate to see Dev's pump in man hours into the AH when so many other things are more desirable.
