    Default arcane archer

Can anyone tell me if having the weapon prof....do you need to take ranger level (s) for ranged attack speed..or could a pure caster have the same say bow speed of fire as a ranger. I am not concerned with bow strength (damage)..just the attack speed.

    Thanks,

Ranged weapon speed is partly based on your Base Attack Bonus. Since wizards have half the BAB of Rangers your bow speed would be slower, but it has little to do wtih ranger specificaly. A fighter barbarian or paladin would all have the same base ranged attack speed, while wizard and sorcerer would both be slower as they have half the BAB.

I doub't that you would be "twice as slow" due to half the BAB but it would be slower.

Ranger levels will boost your BAB, therefore boosting your rate of fire. 2 Ranger also grants you the Rapid Shot feat (without needing the prereq, Point Blank Shot), which also boosts your rate of fire by roughly +10%.

    On the arcane archer tip...

I'm still debating my level mix for a ranging ranger/wizard. I started with Impaqt's 9r/5w template but I'm currently leaning 13r/1w... and since Arcane Archer locks out Deepwood sniper I might give up and take deepwood in the end. I'll try arcane archer first, but I wish it had a little more pizazz.
