    Default umd question

Have a fighter / paladin 12/2 and will most likely be taking a rogue level at 15 or 16 for umd bonus. I have 13 Int , 24 ish charisma and have put my skill points into umd at each level. I also have a spell focus feat in umd. I believe I am sitting at 21.5.

    So my question is......

when i take the rogue level. How many skill points will I get and how many can be put into umd? (max 4?) Also, assuming I rogue at 15, can i then put more than 1/2 pt into umd at 16?

My goal is to use heal scrolls with better success. No 7 finger gloves or Head of good fortune on this guy yet unfortunately.

    Thanks in advance.

When you take a level of rogue you get a base 8 skill points +1 for your 13 INT for a total of 9 points. At 15th level the maximum for a class skill will be 18 Ranks. You should be able to dump as many points as you want to (up to a new rank of 18 max) as a Rogue. It is the class you are going up as that counts for the Skill point cost. That is why some multiclass combos like Rangers and Rogue post a build with a late rogue level so that they can pump a rogue skill to max and avoid the 2 for 1 skill point costs of cross class skills.

Skill ranks wise, currently you're sitting at: 8.5
At rogue 1 (15th level), you'll get 9 skill points for a 13 int and your max skill level would become 18.
So if you add all 9 points into UMD, you end at 17.5.
With your last fighter or paly level, you'd be allowed up to 19 ranks and could use the 3 skill points from either of those classes to (in .5 increments) reach 19.

In total, this would move your UMD (if your current base is 21.5) to 32
Heal scrolls are at 40, so you'd need to roll an 8+ to use them.

    Is 21.5 without Greater Heroism?
Sounds like you know about the items to increase UMD.
If you're human, you could also use Human Versatility skill boosts for when you really need to have the heal work.

If you haven't used an int tome, you might consider it to get to 14. If you're human, you'd also have an extra skill point per level.
If you've downloaded Risia, and your toon was capped when they copied characters (just before Mod 5), you could test out that rogue level now.

Speaking of UMD can someone tell me why "Use Magic Device" is cross classed for an arcane caster?
To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of the women!

If you're talking about arcane wands, then it doesn't matter, as there is not UMD check for a wizard.

If you're talking heal wands, then those would be Divine devices, wouldn't they?

I think that the word Magic is being used as a non specific term to describe two possible items.
