    Question Inventory Screen Update

I was just shuffling through my inventory on a new character and had an idea for enhancing the inventory screen. Thought I'd share it here to see what discussion might ensue.

Basically, I want to add tabs on the paper-doll side of the inventory screen similar to the backpack side of the existing screen. Only the first tab would have the armor slot, but additional tabs would have all of the other slots. These additional tabs serve two purposes.

    1) More inventory space! When a tab is not active the items on that tab are just in limbo
    2) The tabs themselves could be dropped to a hotbar to allow for a switch of several different items at once

Now, I know this really isn't very realistic in terms of rationalizing how a person could instantly swap a hat, gloves, boots, belt, etc., but the hotbars already make items switching pretty unrealistic. So, I have no problem with that.

Primarily I thought of this for my UMD characters that need to swap the items that increase UMD all at once when trying to invoke that Raise Dead scroll, or equp a special item or wand. But I can think of several uses for this for almost every one of my characters.

Some rough image edits are below to try to make this all clearer....

    Thoughts?

    Default Like it a lot!

I'm sold. I'd put my UMD set right next to my Rez Scrolls.

I like the idea... dont think the items should be in "limbo"... think you should just have 1 tab selected at a time and the other tabs simply stay on the left side... then it auto swaps all the items from the left to right and vice versa when you select a new tab... I think backpacks are already as large as they should be without items dissappearing with no real location...

    Default I like the concept...

In the mean time however, check out my post in this same forum about clickies. If you look at the order I have my items setup (columns for identical types of items like boots all in the same column, goggles in the same column, etc. and then in the upper left I have all of my UMD items (head of good fortune and titan gloves) next to each other to make it easy to click in a row which item to use. Then when I want to re-equip all of my "standard gear" I click row#2 to get my primary items. Not saying it's a better solution, but it's something I've found that will work with our current setup. I too would like an easier way to swap out multiple items but not sure how high on the priority that will be for the devs.

Maybe we could just move the Armor location to be line with the weapons and ammo. Then all of the other tabs would look the same...

    very Hellgate: London.

personally though, i don't think i've ever had the need for such a system. Course, i never thought i had a need for TiVo either...

I too would move the armor by the weapons/ammo.

Holding clothing/jewelry in limbo, but not weapons/shields (in weaponsets) is fairly inconsistant though.

Default It takes time to change all that equipment

How long does it take you to change two rings, a necklace, bracers, boots, belt, and armor? If they ever did implement this, there would need to be a significant delay if multiple items were being "switched."

it would be nice to go to full rogue mode and then back to combat mode in a single toggle. If not like you displayed then maybe they could give us hot bars with pre-designated equipment slots and alow us to activate the entire bar at a time. Armor could be excluded from having a spot on the bar so that it would not be an issue, or there could be a robe slot that would allow only robes to be slotted. They could make it an optional toolbar that scrolls through and detaches like the normal ones or allow us to set them up and give us a single icon we can put on a hotbar to activate.

oh, it was just weapons in hellgate, but the weapons in these weapons sets were no longer taking up space in your backpack. your suggestion is really more "reverse-hellgate" than anything

I like the idea of gear sets, but not as a way to get more space. There needs to be limits.

    Good idea mind you.

Ah, well the whole limbo thing was me thinking about that "overflow backpack" or whatever it is that we have in DDO. I thought something like that could be used for the gear sets. I don't know that the primary motivator is saving space with this idea as much as just having the sets and me trying to figure out how to keep everything from popping all around quasi-randomly in the backpacks when they are switched. Hmmmmm, now you have me really thinking about checking out hellgate again.... I remember there being some cool armor in that game.
