Default So I wanted a new build

I was trying to put together a new build, something halfling and I realized that with all the necessary min maxing it has become harder for me to come up with a decent build. I toyed with a melee class but str low. I toyed with a rogue but too many stats to distribute to. I toyed with Drow but I have a Drow rogue already. I went with Ranger/Rogue but too many skills and wasn't sure if I wanted to go more Ranger or Rogue as I was mainly looking for Rogue. Is it just me or does anyone else have a hard time with the min/maxing? I know it may not be totally necessary to min/max but from what I've seen in the higher content you become increasingly ineffective if you make a balanced character. Any thoughts suggestions? I play to have fun but I don't want to be a liabilty to the party because I didn't min/max. The Rogue thing is a sticky point for me due to still not being able to understand pure Rogues who can neither find nor disable traps and yes I know they may be a combat build but geeze put some points into the Rogue skills.

Made a ranger of some sort yet? There are many different ways you can go with ranger, they are one of the best classes in the game if not the best because of all their given feats, spells, healing abilities, combat abilities, and they have pretty good base saves to match. If you want an interesting build maybe try a str ranger with 2 levels of paladin for saves? That would be cool, or just a pure str ranger. With the new tempest enhancment coming you could go a ranger/fighter and get that extra 10% stackable speed boost and then you could also take oversized twf fighting. Then you could be dwarf, get dwarvens for free and be able to duel wield dwarvens with only a -2/-2.

There are many ways to go with rangers, if you want more ideas let me know.

Hope this helped you find a cool build.

I dont know how many times I need to say this.....

2-4 Points in any particular stat is completely Unnoticeable by anyone but yourself.

So you rhalfling can only start with a 16 STR... By L14 that can be a 30 easily enough. WIthyour Racial +1 to Hit, No one is going tosay "Man, that halfling is missing a lot of swings isnt he? Drow it doen to 14 Starting and guess what..... Only YOU know that. My clerics melee quite well with 14 Starting STR and no Melee Feats.....

Rogue Wise, the only reason a rogue fails a trap is because he was designed wrong. It has NOTHING to dowith the race of the character. You you want to hit all the high water marks, it can be done with ANY race with the right gear.

I can go on an on..... but it gets boring. I'm really tured of seeing people say "I Play for Fun" but then follow it up with "I Need to Min/max to have fun"

    Huh?

I have a str Ranger/Fighter and 2 Dex Rangers and I do enjoy both. In response to the other poster I may not have made my point properly I wasn't implying that you have to min/max or that I necessarily wanted to min/max just stating what MHO is on the subject. I do indeed play for fun but I think at times I may get tied up in the min/max thing but by no means do I feel you should have to. I thank you for your replies and I think I may go with a 2 Rogue 14 Ranger Halfling build or 12 Rogue 2 Ranger, not sure yet.

Well, here is a build I thought up to take advantage of the Halfling Dragonmarks, with end game Rogue skills and the abilility to back up heal in a pinch. I went with the repeater. A lot of people will tell you not to bother with a Ranger, but the only feat you lose out on is Manyshot, and with the upcoming changes to ranged combat and Improved Precise Shot, I think the repeater is about to make a comeback.

Anyways, here is what I'm thinking.

I think with rogue builds you can check the "Is my X skill high enough" thread to see what combination of stats/skill ranks/enhancements & gear you should keep on a character to be vaible for whatever "rogue tasks" you want to be able to complete, then put whatever happens to be leftover into whatever you enjoy (a halfling ranger who can jump on top of all the buildings around, say...)
