Default Seeking Advice for DDO laptop setup...

Just recieved a new Laptop: Toshiba A215-7422 AMD Turion 64x2 TL-58 1.9ghz, ATI x1200 (w/319mb shared) graphics, with 1gb (up to 4 gb) ram... preloaded with Vista Home Premium (32bit)...

As far as playing DDO on it when i am away from home....Whats the best scenario?

I plan to upgrade the memory to at least 3gb...

Should i stick with Vista (no one seems to love this OS)? Load XP? Get XP 64-bit, is it worth it to be able to use the full 4gb?

DDO will be the most important App. running so looking to optimize for that.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Ok heres a heads up that i have learned. I have Vista 32bit with AMD 4000+ dual core and 2gb ram
DDO runs perfect. I would say upgrade to 2gb ram only because vista 32 can only handle 2gb. The only 1 gb would go for paging and other stuff like that and to be honest its not worth the extra money. My brother has 4gb ram with vista and only 2.3gb is working. With that laptop it seem that with the 1.9ghz dual core and 2gb ram would be more then enough vista will slow it down though I will tell you that. I went from XP Pro 32bit to vista and its a big difference that I noticed. Also i heard both XP 64 and vista 64 have had major troubles with DDO. I know i had to tell Vista to runn ddo as XP to even get the stuoid thing to work. So hope that helps u decide also this is my specs which may help a lil

K9N4 Ultra with nvidia 500 Ultra chipset
    2gb DDR2 800mhz
    AMD 4000+ dual core
    XFX 7600
dual gigabyte network cards ( running in bridge mode to)
    Diamond 7.1/24bit sound
Ultra High settings average 55-110FPS depending on where I am at

I was playing DDO on my Thinkpad T61 until I got my desktop repaired, and it was acceptable - 1.86GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, Vista Business, Mobile 965 Graphics chipset. With Intel's integrated graphics, I could run a decent resolution (15" laptop, so the resolution didn't get above 1280x990 or some odd size like that), but I had to turn a lot of the textures down or off. You may have better luck with the ATI chipset.

I would suggest at least 2GB of RAM - more if your lappy will take it and you can afford it. You can always use the extra RAM to increase the texture cache size, which will help cut down the stuttering when you're moving from one texture-heavy area to another.
I asked about 64bit Vista and DDO a while ago, and it seems like it's fine, with some caveats that may or may not have to do with drivers under Vista 64. The thread can be found here - http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=127137.
I noticed on my laptop, I had better performance when I turned Aero off. Even though DDO runs in 'compatibility' mode, which disables Aero, the display manager (dwm) consumes a fair amount of ram with Aero turned on. I'd suggest trying out DDO and seeing how it runs now, before deciding on 64-bit. having the DDO client in its own 4GB memory space would let you use a lot of RAM for texture cache, that's for sure
    Whitecap? Freakin' schweet!
