Default To be Male, or not to be...

    OK,

I know I will get an array of differ responses here but...

Why do guys play women in the game???

    Are you...

    1) A Woman trapped in a Man's body?
    2) Want to scam the lonely guys at thier computers to give ya stuff?
    3) Have a desire to stare at your toon with the armor off all night lookin at her backside?
    4) Enjoy Flirting with other dudes in the game cause you cant come out of the closet in RL?
    5) Have Secret fantasies about wearing Victoria Secret?

Personally I just dont get it... Do you all want to be Xena in another life or something?

(This can go for the women who play dudes as well if ya want to give some input)

Honestly I do it as a change of pace. You can only have so many builds or classes so I mix it up by making a female. I must say though I wonder why Turbine made the human female buttocks so big, geeze.

Personally I don't play any female characters, but if I did, my defense would be -

I would rather look at a female ass than a male.

But that wouldn't be a real reason, so as I said, I play no such things. Always found that odd, especially when they start saying 'I gotta get a +6 con item for her..' Umm..

    lmao

I thought I was the only one who kinda raised an eyebrow to some of the responses ya get in a group.

Especially when theres a female and they dont talk til near the end of a run and they sound like barry white

I rolled my first female character recently simply because the character had to be drow and I had a male drow already

Aerren is female because pigtails on a drow male would just be silly.

Being I play only Warforged... does my response matter in this thread?

If I do female or male on a character it is typically due to roleplaying reasons and it relates somewhat to their biography stories. For instance, my cleric Cowsoul is a female because she is a cow soul that got herself trapped in a Warforged. Would be kinda odd with a backstory like that to be a male Warforged when their gender is based on personality and role perception.

I know which one Id prefer
And on the eigth day god went for a beer.

And on the ninth day he was still in the pub with his mates, and is going to be in big trouble when Mrs god finds him.

Similar to cowsoul, often "background" comes into play. I do not put backstories into my character's bio; but they all have a "story" in my head. Usually formatted while I'm fiddling with different "looks" at character creation.

Because of this, I used to make a conscious effort to have equal representation of all races and genders. (Used to - these days I rarely make anything other than halflings).

As far "need to get a +6 con item for HER" - do it all the time. Do it to my boat too Such is the way of things

All right, I'm not a guy, but....

Cause most of the male character images are hideous! Especially the elves/drow (they all look so...so...sleep-deprived :P ). Give us more good-looking options, you'll see more male characters.

    Default Aesthetics.

I find most of the male character graphics look "wrong". I have less difficulty designing for a female appearance that looks "right", to me.

    EDIT:

Well I'm female so have a different perspective, but since I've queried a lot of males in game about this (for the same reason you started this thread - curiousity), the most popular response I've gotten was...they didn't want to stare at a man's butt the entire time they were playing.

When I make a female character its for a lark, or good alliteration...Hawtty Hotpants the Halfling Hero Paladin Princess of Pint -sized Power. Besides halflings look androgenous, lots of people never even noticed Hawtty was female especially when at the time hardly anuone was making halfling characters.

well, my guildmate plays a lot of female characters. Not exclusively, but a lot. I gave him a real hard time about it, and upon introspection, i realized i can't judge him without walking in his shoes. So i made a female drow wizard, got her to level 10 or so, and still don't see what the big deal is. Now i keep her around just because i don't feel like leveling another caster. Honestly, its all pixels anyway, and a female elf or drow doesn't have a butt anyway, and theres about another 98% of my screen i'm busy looking at to be admiring what little behind she does have.

So, as a dude that has played at least one female character, yeah, i don't get it either. If you want to play a girl, fine, so be it, but don't use that excuse of "i'd rather look at a female's butt than a male's butt," because i'm not buying it.

Yes, I've seen it quite often. Yet the reverse is not true...what few female players I see playing DDO -- most of them do not create male characters. (I would never make a male character myself...just feels wrong!?) Why do you suppose that is?

(Note, the answer is not "women don't care about staring at men's butts as much." But at least, in that aspect, I don't see the appeal of checking out a pixelated butt. In the same vein, I don't understand guys who think anime chicks are hot. Uh...it's a CARTOON!!!)

Forgive my ramblings. I'm tired as I'm writing this!

    Default Hm....

I'm actually a girl in real life, and I do have ONE male toon, whom I really don't play much at all. But the reason I made him was because I think all those little elf guys are soooo cute! I just had to get one too! XD

lets see.. i have 3 female characters..
    1) my 5yo redheaded daughter wouldn't let me name a male character after her .. gogo headstart name reservations
    2) as has been mentioned, after a while, you can only make so many variations on male characters .. I must have gone through 30 rogues in the beta before I made the one that ended up sticking at the end, and since I wanted the name-recognition for launch, I reserved her name on several servers as well.
    3) my cleric is female just because I felt like it that day

and yes, I say things like "I gotta get her a +6 con item" all the time.. like Samadhi and his boat, my truck is a 'she' also so 'she' has to get a new exhaust system

    Female Warforged looks awesome.

What's the point to roll a male wf if the female wf looks the exactly the same?
