    My first suspicion would be something running in the background causing an issue as other people on your connection do not have the same issue. You can find instructions on how to disable background programs in the following article:

    Default Same here

    I am having the same problem. I am using a router *not wireless* and my wife can stay on fine and I can't. After a few hours of testing it seems to only happen to who logs in second into DDO. If i logged in first and she came on a few minutes later the issues starts on her computer. Same with our laptop..if it logs in second it starts getting the same issues. I also dont think disabling everything is *great* advice due to many people who don't know about computers will end up turning off thier antivirus doing as you suggest which in turn could really hurt there computer. The issue is something on turbines end. Just spent 20 minutes on the phone with my ISP and they arent having any issues. I logged into another game with my wife and my computer and no issues. Its Turbines servers period. I've been working on computers/networking for sometime now and the random lag/downtime of the servers over the past few months leaves me no other choice then to believe you guys have a much bigger issue then we will ever know and for some reason or another it hasn't been fixed...its just being *patched* up to make due till you guys get a solution.

    This issue of not being able to stay logged in just started this morning when I first logged in with my wife. I am the type that can look past some lag and minor issues but today I was running a PoP group and I am a cleric and had to reboot 6 times to finish the quest becuase I kept getting booted and when just trying to log back in I kept getting failure to connect ..1,2,3 screen..only was fixed when I rebooted. I was embarrassed and thou I never met the other 4 members of the group...thats all that group is ever going to remember that this cleric was worthless because he can't even stay connected. Thats when server issues start bothering me. Fix *your* issues..thats the only solution.

    My opinion only...but I bet alot of money in vegas that I am right

    A two computer configuration as you are speaking is different. It's likely you are having port collision issues while both connecting using the same router. In order to attempt to resolve this, we will need for you to make some changes to your router and your individual computers. There are a range of ports that your router uses in order to connect your pc's to the game. You will need to split these ports between the two computers. To do this, you will first need to know how to open these ports on your router. Most coming router port forwarding instructions can be found on the website: http://www.portforward.com

    First you will need to edit the UserPreferences.ini file that is located in your Dungeons and Dragons Online folder inside your My Documents folder. You should be able to double click this file and it will open in notepad. If your computer asks you what program you would like to open this will, select Notepad. Find the following section:

    [Net]
    ComputeUniquePort=False
    BindInterface=
    UserSpecifiedPort=0
    ConnectionSpeed=0.00

    On the first computer (Computer A), set UserSpecifiedPort to 9000 (UserSpecifiedPort=9000). On the second computer (Computer B), set this value to 9006 (UserSpecifiedPort=9006). You will then need to follow the instructions on www.portforward.com to open the correct ports for the correct computers. In your router, you will need to open ports 9000 through 9005 for Computer A and ports 9006 through 9010 for Computer B. In order to follow these instructions, you will need the individual computers IP address. You can get this address by performing the following steps:

    1. Click on Start > Run
    2. Input "cmd" without the quotes and click Ok.
    3. Input "ipconfig" without the quotes and press Enter.
    4. Note the value next to "IP Address", this is your computer's IP address. It will be different for each computer (although possibly very similiar).

    You are more than welcome to have your own opinions, however, the issue is not a global issue.

    Default Thanks for the reply

    I appreaciate the reply yeti

    But I did this over a year ago when I first subscribed to DDO. I hope this helps the orginal poster but currently does not help me. As I said this just started this morning..has not been an ongoing issue. But to just play it safe becuase I would be honest if this really did help..I did double check to make sure nothing had changed to my router which can sometimes happen due to power outages or what not. Everything was still the same...thou I did close the ports and reopen them just to make sure they were saved again. Still hasnt helped. I get kicked randomly in time differences. Can stay on for 30 minutes or 30 seconds or not be able to log in at all. Maybe my ISP is lieing to me and they are having issues and its affecting DDO or maybe your east coast server is having issues and you dont know yet. Ever since the last server downtime the lag has been horrible and I'm starting to think and when I get the patience to sit down and check it out that maybe DDO is just eating a ton of bandwidth or getting packet loss that my 5mb cable cannot keep up. I highly doubt it but im a computer guy and i troubleshoot..so its what i do heh.

    Once again thanks for the reply. Currently will probably just wait it out and see what happens...just happen today and there is another server downtime tommorrow for 6 hours ..maybe a reboot of the servers is all it needs.

    Another possibility; I have seen this happen while on travel to a hotel after trying to improve the graphics setting on my laptop. While I was attempting to get the client to run a little smoother the end result was the game would crash for seemingly no reason.

    While I am not saying you are doing this...it is possible your graphics card is having an issue and client is crashing out because of this issue. Easy way to tell is to drop graphics settings to low and see if the problem continues. Bring it up gradually over a few days until you repeat the problem; then you can find out what 'features' are coming on possibly identify where a hardware interm. failure could be adding to your woes.

    Jaysum,

    You appear to have a good handle of the problem; but I would offer this suggestion. check your connection log and find the server you are conncting to. Perform a trace route from your workstation to that server address. While your ISP might be showing everything doing ok from them to you it does not check out all of the routers between you and the destination. If a router in that chain in having an interm. prob. if you see some delays in the routers you may have helped isoalte your culprit. also there are several websites that provide a gauging of your bandwidth throughput. I would double check yours with nothing 'active' on your network and then kick off one client and check it again, bring up the second client and check it again. If you are getting a serious drop off then you may have a hardwar problem. I have seen this twice in the last year and in both cases it was a bad cable modem (My Network once and my fathers entwork once). Good luck!

    Yedi, no disagreement with your diagnosis; I just would like to add that because you have a multiple computer one router situation does not mean you will encounter this error [if your having this problem then it is something to try]. At one point I had 4 DDO clients running through my router and did not have this issue arise. I currently still have two that are active ( my wife and daughter no longer play) while my son and I continue to explore .

    After weeks of wondering why the DDO customer support suggestions regarding disconnects didnt work for me (a not-so-savvy-in-computer-issues person), I finally have something new I can try to fix my perma-disconnects. Just hope that this will do the trick. Thanks, Yeti, for the info...I will try it right now!!!
