Question What is in a name

So what is the standard for offensive names of characters

I recently had a character renamed (wont post it because I dont want trouble). Now the name was a correct term in greek which was changed by the turbine rep to Phall. The name was not something that some 8 year old would even understand and should not intentionally offend most teens and older. It was a gas playing a bright red WF whose last name was Symbol. I took the naming advise re: wf who were named for what they do, did or looked like. Also I never phonetically circumvented the language filter, The name was accepted without being altered in any way.

Anyways most people (pugs included) thought the name was funny. So I am just wondering who are the name police, or how many people have to complain to get a name changed. Is just one complaint, say by someone who has a grudge with you that can cause names to be changed, or do several people have to complain. I am totally happy if several people complain and a name change is required, but one complaint should not cause a name change.

Making funny names is a fun discussion topic amongst my friends, and of course people like to push the envelope a bit. I just thought this might be a worthy Discussion for my home server and also the general population (hence double posting).

Why not find a new way to poke fun at the old name that was moderated? I think it would be loads more funny and historically-awesome in the DDO community if you renamed your bright red warforge that was a Fallacy Symbol to humankind (c'mon, warforge are magically created, they don't even reproduce!). I would definitely have asked the GM to rename my bright red warforged to Red Rocket or RedRocket in a South Park Tribute to my greek intent.

I had several attempts at new names, but the moderator wanted it changed immediately and all of my choices were deemed in appropriate, even calling him Phallanx which is a completely legit name from historical military army formations. Finally after giving several attempts I finally asked the mod to make it acceptable because Obviously I could not. Also I was firmly warned that i was about to be disciplined and not allowed to pay for a while.

FOr some reason naming him "The Wizard formerly Known as Phall**" was a no go for a name

Sounds like one petty, miserable person with no life and no friends who feels some power and control by getting other people in trouble...

Yes, it just takes one person reporting you, and then all of a sudden it must be changed immediately to prevent a word they don't understand from corrupting the innocent children who don't understand it.

Don't worry sweets... its not the size of your WF that matters... its how hard he swings that sword!

i got chewed out by some kid's parents for saying the word "cocky" within earshot in public, once. Not as a euphamism, but as the actual meaning of the word. I said, "Yeah, he's one cocky son of a gun." They ranted for 5 minutes before i could get a word in edgewise, when i asked them since when was "gun" a bad word. When they said, "No, the other word, (whisper) cocky," I died laughing. Five minutes of my life i'll never get back because some parents were offended by me saying someone they don't even know is very self-confident!

Yup, can't have "Nunc Lento Sonitu Decunt Morieris" in your bio, it seems. It comes out "Nunc Lento Sonitu De(\%# Morieris." You know, i memorized that phrase in high school, and have since graduated and remembered it in the seven years since then, and i never even noticed that until the filter pointed it out.

Also, your character can't be a "****y Son of a gun!" either.
