Default newbie bard question on race

Wanted to try here first, but lemme know if you perfer this in newbie forum.

Still pretty new, only have one char, lvl 8 Barbarian (halfing)

I have drow unlocked but am waaaayyy off from 32 pt unlocked, but want to start a second char. After doing alot of reading bard sounds like a good fit.

In terms of races looks wise and running animation etc, I like halfings and dwarfs better than anything, especially halfings, drow is ok would prob grow on me.

So my question is , given drow is better stat wise, is it such a huge difference that I will be kicking myself in the butt later ("higher" levels I guess) if I go with a halfing over drow? I have read on DC's etc but do not totally get how big the difference is and want to start the bard before I get to 32 pt (if I ever even unlock it heh : )

Halfling got 3/4 carry cpacity, which is semething to be awared of on a low str build.

They also got -2 Str but +1 to-hit... so they only loose 1 damage per hit (1,5 if THF).

Drow get +2 Cha, which means +1 DC... so +5% effectiveness of spells with a saves and a few more spell points.

Like you said, drow are better start wsie, pretty much the equivalent of a 32 pt build.

So know, halfling makes decent bards, not the best powergamed bards, but they're not gimps... but the 3/4 carrying capacity is a pain to me...

    But that personnal preferences.

I like drow bards. You can take the first lvl of twf (dex 15) then add in the racial enhancements you get from using shortswords and rapiers. Toss in the warchanter line and you can be a tough customer Another thing to consider is that going drow is the only way you can get cha 20 naturally at lvl 1 without a tome. Not even a 32pt build will give you a 20 at character creation without a tome.

I have to agree that the male drow do run really funny (no one runs with a straight back ) if you don't like it either you run a female character instead. They are prettier too

For halflings I like going barbarian - ranger - cleric ( I have 1 of each)

Ladies - Mediclady, Elspyth, Warchantress, Bittt, Julez, LilBitt, Bucketoboltz, Skitty, Kerro, Wyntermoon, Kethrey, Kethree, Selany, Gypsie, Cassyopeya, Tinkerbelle, Dyanya, PallasAthene

Actually, a heal/buff halfling bard might work out well. But if you are going more for casting offensively, I'd recommend a drow or 32 point human.
