    Default Holy Sword Changes

Well the new changes to the spell holy sword sure do make it more appealing, not quite there IMO but getting better.
How about +5 Holyburst ___________ of Righteousness and Pure Good. Now that is a weapon worth staying Pure to level 14 for

Aye, the new version is ok, is it worth staying pure for? Does it make a pure Paladin as viable as a pure Fighter or a pure Barbarian? Sadly no

No matter how good it'll be... it'll never be good enough... or at least not in long term.

It has to be a buff, to enhance any weapon... not to create one.

Right now, a +5 Holy Burst Righteous [Blank] of Pure Good sounds good... but maybe not at later levels. I'd call that a BandAid, not a fix.

True, Bor. I guess it all depends on how many Mods they put on weapons.Tcould make it a scaling spell maybe adding 1D6 Holy per caster lvl, or make the crit range on every weapon the same (17-20) and increase crit range by 1 per caster level and have the improved crit range stack with improved crit. Or keep the crit range the same as regular weapon but still increase the crit rangw by 1 every caster lvl. Making a lvl 20 holy sword weapon be +5 HolyBurst (extra 8d6 [6d6 burst +2d6 Regular Holy] Holy Damage on Burst) Righteous Cold Iron <Blank> of Pure Good crit range 15-20 (13-20 with Improved crit feat). That would be a pretty awesome weapon IMO even at epic levels

How about a progressive spell. ie at whatever level you get the spell at it starts as +5 Holy Cold Iron Weapon and 2 levels later it becomes

+5 Holy Burst Cold Iron Weapon

then 2 after that it becomes

+5 Holy Burst Cold Iron Weapon of Pure Good

then 2 after that it becomes

+5 Holy Burst Cold Iron Weapon of Greater Good

    and I think that's 20

    Aesop

of course this is on top of confering the SR and Dispel Magic Strike of a holy avenger like it should

Oh and not to get to far off subject but I also think they should drop the uses per day on Smite Evil and just give it a 20 Sec cooldown and throw in a 4 step enhancement that increases the damage of the Smite from Paladin Level to Paladin Level +%, +10, +15 and +20 at the top end around level 18. Does this overpower a Fighters DPS... no infact the fighter still comes out on top usually but it does narrow the gap significantly and allow the Paladin to be a Holy Warrior and not an off tank.

Combine this with my previous suggestion for Holy Sword and I think you'll see a lot more Paladins running around Pure.

I'd love to see a damage progression on Holy Sword tied to level, sort of like sneak attack but it should not be as strong as sneak attack, Rogues need their lovin too

One question for the Pure Paladins out there... Holy Sword... I know it requires the special component Cold Iron Blessed weapon... is it destroyed on leaving the quest, or does it revert back to the component weapon? My guess is that it is destroyed... but if it just reverted, that might make the spell a little more palatable/useable?

i admit my 14 pally has never used it. but i think it is destroyed.and even if it gave me back my materials for making it id prolly throw it away due to not having eough back pack space..i have better things to carry around lol

Pretty sure it is destroyed on quest exit. I am also pretty sure that they do not stack, but should like any other spell component in my mind. I might set aside one space for Holy Sword Ingredients, but not multiple. Imagine if a Wizards Stoneskin required a seperate slot for each spell dose....bah you would not see that spell cast very often either. Also right now, the advantage of another 4th level spell (Death Ward) is very high in the Necro, so it is hard to justify the marginal increase in effectiveness that the Holy Sword MIGHT have against SOME foes you would fight. I can run the Orchard area with my Paly and some casters pretty effectively. Drop a Death Ward on Each, put a Virtue (20 extra HP) on everyone (makes a difference on the squishies for sure), and then clean up the remains.
