Default Neverwinter Nights 2 (And its expansions)

I've been contemplating picking up NWN2 for a while, and after having read about the new expansion, the Mask of the Betrayer, and how great of reviews its getting about the epic levels and the new challenges, it sounds awesome.

Is the game worth buying (obviously along with all the expansions)? I'm only semi-familiar with NWN games, so this would be fairly new for me. I'm a die-hard on almost every other D&D based PC game thats been out (Silver/Gold Box series, Baldures Gate, etc...) and obviously DDO... never made it over to NWN though.

Gimme some thoughts and opinions here folks.

I loved NWN/NWN2 but quit when this came out. The online play is so much better. NWN was fine for playing alone and I played NWN 2 for a while, it was pretty good. I don't think either played as good as Baldurs Gate though. I've played them all too man, I love D&D, I feel comfortable saying that this is the best pc iteration of D&D currently available. I do miss storyline choices that make some sort of difference and alignment that matters for more than choosing what gear you wear though.

Wait... saying DDO is the best available or NWN2 is the best available?

Regardless, I wouldn't stop playing DDO by any means... just looking for another game to fill up some free time.

I used to be big into NWN. I made a 3.5 hak pack for it. I updated my hak pack for NWN2. The loading times were just too much for me to enjoy the game though so I quit.

NWN and NWN2 are both aweseom single player D&D games in my opinion.

    Both are alot of fun.

I would put them on about the same level as the BG games, which i personally still quite enjoy (re-playing through BG2 atm hehe)

You can certainly buy a worse game I guess is what I'm saying

Yeah, I've also thought about re-installing BG1 and BG2. Both were indeed excellent games.

Although the UI is a little cludgy by today's standards, I still go back through and play Planescape: Torment every so often... I think I'm about level 5 on my current replay through.

    Default Vista Vs the World.

Does anyone know if there is an issue with NWN2 and Vista?

Since we're talkin' NWN2, maybe someone can answer a question for me:

Built a copy of my DDO bard over there and fascinate just doesn't seem to have the same effect. I get it off around a group of mobs and they either sit for about 1 or 2 sec then become active again, or just plain ignore the fascinate.

Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

Oh, and the lag used to just kill me.....BUT....since I downloaded Patch 1.07 Beta, it runs grrreeeaatt!

Haven't really tried fascinate in NWN, so not sure how it's supposed to work there, but in P&P, combat in the area prevents/breaks it (hypnotism, too - makes them not very useful crowd control methods).

    Vista = Virus.

Vista has a lot of issues...

NWN2 is an amazing solo player game. The options of classes we just don't have in DDO makes it worth playing through. The expansion added even more classes and epic level progression. The rules are closer to actual 3.5 with the exception of some of the requirements for prestige classes. All in all...buy, play, if you don't like it, then give it to someone (possibly a kid you know who's parents won't let them online) who might not enjoy DDO.

At this point NWN2 is a great game, especially with the MotB expansion. Most of the issues it had when it came out over a year ago have been solved by a succession of patches (up to 1.11 now), and runs quite well. Also several great modules have been made, and a couple of professional quality modules, created by a group of moders working together as a "studio", are due to be released. On of them will take place in sigil and the planescape setting.

I play it often when I don't have the time to go on-line and play DDO. I enjoy the options it offers for character creation, but the multi-player aspects of it are still lacking. Almost no good persistent worlds if you aren't a very hard-core roleplayer.

I recently got my hands on Icewind Dale 1 and 2 as well as Dragonshard. I think I'm gonna knock them out before moving onto the NWN games.
