    Default Sound Problem

    Hello,

My sound keeps cutting out intermittently. As if there is a fan and every time a blade comes around the sound cuts into static and then it comes back. This happens happens when I am speaking on my mic and when I am listening to people talk. There is no problem when I am playing an offline game, watching a movie, and playing music. The problem is most apparent with ventrillo and ingame voice chat. Thus I do not think it is a problem with the game.

I am running Windows Vista (64 bit) Home Premium. Athlon 64 Dual-Core
    Soundblaster X-Fi Fatal1ty.

I have also deleted and reinstalled soundcard drivers multiple times now.

Anyone able to help me out with advice?

well the first thing is the last time i checked Vista is not yet supported.

but i do use it as well.

vista also has problems with some of the sound card interface

i would start my trying to reinstall the game i know i know but thats what i would tell a user that is having problems with MS office

also it could have something to do with the 64bit CPU and OS you have installed. i'm not aware of anyone that uses it nore is the game supporting 64bit OS to my as fare as i know.

i'm using Vista ultimate. probably no difrence but who knows

but given what you have said the 2 options that i'm thinking are

    1) 64bit OS
    2) corrupt game files

As she stated vista is not fully supported yet, but you can try using creative alchemy and see if that helps - I used it and it appears to improve my sound performance. You can find more information about it on creative's website.

post your dxdiag or system information report. I knew some X-fi and Vista 64 bit had some problems especially with 4 gigs of memory.

just doing a search on Creative sounds forums I came up with over ten pges of threads. You might get some help over and by tring different drivers.

Default wow and I thought I was the only one

I have the same problem. Vista 64 with xfi fatality sound card. Used the vista driver that was provided since the latest driver causes only static on boot up. I believe it is a 4gb ram problem with the newest driver. Good to hear I am not alone with this problem. I only started getting this problem after the last few updates. Can't remember which one...? I am pretty sure it wasn't there in the beginning. Maybe a fresh install will fix this.
