You misunderstand. I didn't mean "the way Ki functions in DDO" was like fourth edition so much as "Ki as a power source" is like fourth edition. (Given that they've already indicated that Ki will be a power source in fourth edition.)

Third edition monks don't have any reference to "Ki" while fourth edition already does, despite the fact that monks don't even exist yet.

Wonder how they're gonna implement it. The D&D version (quoted above) would be pretty weak in DDO.

Currently it's implemented as "Expend a turn attempt, gain a +2/+4/+6/+8 Sacred bonus to damage for one minute. Requires 14/16/18/20 (base + inherent) Charisma." It's possible that we'll change the duration to scale by Cleric/Paladin level, or alter some of the other specifics during testing.

If thats whats from the book Id rather them just change the duration to a minute(or two) and be done with it. Dont really like how theyre trying to impliment it as a special case type of line that needs min stat requirements. I guess it seems to me that they are entirely too careful/specific with this class and just dish out very nice/easy to use abilities/spells for the other classes without batting an eye.

Is it a paly enhancement or not? Arent PrCs supposed to be the specific, restrictive type lines? Standard type feats like this should be open to any paly and be made to easily impliment into any paly build. Kinda scares me when I think about what im going to need to do to pick up a Paly PrC.

I do hope they consider upping the duration as they say, half my clickies and spells will be half over before I get to even swing my sword.

Don't like the prestige classes one bit. Both of the offensive choices (Knight of the Chalice and Hunter of the Dead) are only useful against specific monters (Evil Outsiders and Undead, respectively).

Depends what they make the requirements too though. If they make them relatively simple, amounting to a couple enhancement prereqs, it might be nice to use alah rangers switching out favored enemies...

if they make us pick-up things like the extra turning feat(hunter of the dead) or equally lame/useless feats to a pally... well that would just suck. Very much hoping for a favored enemy type set up though.

I hope its a bit more then a favored enemy type of thing though. i.e. expanded powers vs those creatures rather then just damage.

llevenbaxx's comparison between the prestige classes and ranger favored enemies was based on his assumption (or is it hope? ) that the paladin prestige classes will have relatively simple pre-requisites. That way it is easy for a paladin to respec his prestige class whenever he chooses to, much like the ranger can respec his favored enemy feat as necessary. He wasn't talking about the actual effects of the prestige classes (of which I'm sure (read: I hope) will be better than a mere boost to damage against a certain foe), but the pre-reqs for the enhancements

Still don't like the prestige classes. This would be more to my liking:

    a) offensive (universally powerful against all monsters, not just undead or evil outsiders)
    b) "beacon" (i.e. stronger auras)
    c) defensive (Defender of Sealtiel will hopefully cover this one)

Those three ideas would be a good starting point. My additions for two of them in red.

Posted by me for no other reason than wild speculation.

From this exploring the Subterrane thread: http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php...72#post1867772

    I got this dev quote:

I would like to remind people of this other quote...

zigzag - *Gforged* There was mention of a Holy Avenger in the works. How will this be implemented? I'm sure pure-class (an mostly pure) Paladins will hate to see their personal weapon in the hands of 2 Rogue/10 Ranger/4 Paladin multi-class character.
Eladrin - A Holy Avenger's a special thing. You can't just hand them out to everyone.
Eladrin - I expect that a certain level of dedication will be required, and perhaps a task or two to prove your worth.
Eladrin - Not the pirate quest.
Django - Oh... I was wondering about that
Not saying anything.... but you never know.

From the compendium (note subject to change)

    Spell: Zeal
Grants the caster a 10 percent sacred bonus to attack speed, lasting 3 seconds per caster level.
    School: Abjuration
    Components: Somatic
    Verbal
    Usable Metamagic:
    Paladin 2
So again it is back to level 2.
At level 16 that is 48 second attack speed boost. 96 seconds with extend.

Cant wait to test this for real to see if it actually stacks with fighter/rogue haste boost and haste spell.

    The Compendium's wrong on Zeal.

It's a level 4 Paladin spell, 24 seconds + 6 per level, 10% Sacred bonus to attack speed. (Sacred stacks with fighter/rogue haste boost ["Action Point"], the haste ["Enhancement"] spell, Wind Stance ["Enhancement / Insight"], or Tempest [Currently Untyped].)

Eladrin, are they giving you some overtime pay.. Glad to see you up and straightening things out.

By the way one of my guildies was going to post a thank you to the developers for doing such a great job on pirate's cove, but he has only posted 3 times in 2 years so he is slow getting to it. He should eventually..

That's sad. I preferred the Compendium version. The low duration made it more interesting to be pure class but wasn't relying on being level 14 either.

No plans on changing the high Charisma requirements for Divine Might? Or the proposed duration of only 1 minute?

Thank you for the update. I know you say it stacks now (before it is released), but I prefer to test these things for myself to be sure when it is actually live.

Being a level 4 spell though means I will not be able to test it with rogue/fighter boost until my character is level 19. C'mon MOD 9! only 7-8 months away now.....

I'm sorry, but Tempest was a huge mistake. I'm glad to see they learned from it. Such powerful class defining abilities should not be available to splash around. Heck people were already planning tempest paladins around this spell.

I'm glad it's going to be at least level 14.

I think this balances paladins rather nicely, so that having a somewhat higher charisma vs say strength isn't gimping yourself. In particular, drow palis should be happy, while dwarven paladins will get a little benefit, they have been reaping the benefits of their high strength for quite a while.

Between Zeal and Divine Might, I think paladins are getting a HUGE boost. The PrCs are icing on a very very yummy cake. Thanks devs.
Devs: Thanks for making Druids available to VIPs without the pack. This more than anything, has made me want to buy the pack.
