Angry Turbine - where is your official response?

Turbine, what is your position on people who advertise plat or items for sale either via unwanted /tells or in-game mail?

I wish I had the time to go find the quote from a developer, or someone in some kind of official role on the forums, but honestly, I'm not going to waste my time. I remember hearing something along the lines about "Oh how happy I will be after mod 5 comes out!"

Turbine, we, the paying playerbase of the game have come to you with a problem and our recommended solution(s) and have yet to see any effort on your part to address this issue. I'm now not asking, if, or what, but *WHEN* do you plan to address this issue? We've given you our thoughts on the proposed solutions -- if you prevent trial accounts from sending in-game email, that should help combat the in-game spam mails -- and since it is from your playerbase, you can only assume that, as players, we would understand why trial accounts would be prevented from doing such, if we were people who would be checking the game out with trial accounts.

I'm not interested in paying for a game, only to have to spend my play time reporting people who send me in-game emails and /tells. So, I'm giving you the opportunity to tell me how you plan to resolve this issue before I let my subscription dollars speak for themselves.

In the town meeting, Quarion asked how people would feel if there was a check box for your mail that only allowed mail from people on your friends list. And people said yes! Also make a check box for guild too.

So that means, if they add those, you will only get mail from those you want to, and the Auction House.

That would allow people that don't want spam to stop the spammers.

I bet we see it with Module 6.

As far as tells go, just ignore them for now. Because I doubt they can do anything much on that front.

Oh for Pete's sake, they have responded to this repeatedly. plat farmers bad. Hundreds of plat farmers banned. Dup methods detected and stopped, more people banned.

And what the heck are all you people whining about anyway? The one tell a week and max 1 email a day? That hurts you how? You have how much junk mail show up in your real mailbox or your standard email each day?

Come on, hit delete, move on, who cares. You are being silly to get so worked up over such a small thing.

Agreed. It only bothers you if you let it.

Takes me all of 1 second to identify a mail I don't want to read - crank that up to 2.5 seconds to identify and hit Delete even if I haven't had my coffee yet.

I agree it's annoying, and I'll get behind any attempt to lessen plat-spam. But it's far from a major source of agrivation in my day. I know some people can't stand it, and that's cool. Me, I'm far happier they took out the world-broadcast for Reaver's Fate. I thought that was one thousand times more annoying because there was nothing I could do about that.

And, Turbine has already stated many times that they are doing what they can to stop spam, or at least stem the tide. But, look at your email... No matter what you do or how many precautions you have in place, spam gets through. These people are innovative and clever because this is their buisness.

Uh...only get mail from your friends list...
    CARP!

I run in PUGs a lot... Sometoimes with a PUG cleric, sometimes guild.

I routinely log on to my haggle alt, after a good or ardorous run, and reward clerics that healed their hearts out by sending them wands and scrolls.
Help defer costs of my mana sucking squishies and high HP tanks...
Cleric does a good job...I pay em back after the quest...

    <<<SOMETIMEINTHENEARFUTURE>>>
Good pug, great healer...log off my lowbie and on to my level14 bard...hit the store, buy us some supplies...hit the mail box..type in name....attatch item..double check name...send.
Imagine my surprize, as I try to send 100 heal scrolls and it gets denied.
    try again? denied...
    Oh well.

I guess it is one solution.

There is no perfect solution - that's the problem.

Also, I'm pretty sure trial accounts won't be able to send mail. Dev chat, Town Hall, something like that.

That wouldn't help, though, if the cleric has it checked. If the cleric isn't accepting non-friend mails, then she can't send him/her a gift.

    a /tell is a very easy thing

i'm sure the cleric wouldnt mind adding her lowbie as a friend so that he can receive a "gift"

I have noticed a steep decline in spam-tells. It's been several weeks since I have received one, and I haven't heard anyone else complaining about them. On the other hand, I've been getting more mail spam recently, up to about 3-5 /week, which all things considered isn't that big a deal.

The mail spam ads really aren't that different from any other junk mail (real "snail mail" junk mail annoys me more, mainly due to clutter and waste), but the /tell spam is more akin to panhandlers approaching you while your eating in a restaurant, i.e. much more irritating and distracting.

Trial accounts that don't get use of the Auction House, Mail system, or trading between characters.
Tell filtering (only allowing tells from people on your friends list).

Oh, but that's only for LotRO. But then again, they have people spamming OOC chat with that kind of stuff with 4+ hour response times from GMs about it.

As far as mail spam... I've been getting one or two pieces on half of my characters (one of who has been on Anonymous since creation) daily.
As far as tells go, I usually get one or two about every 3 days, no matter which character I'm on.
