Default Damit I've had enough of the server probs

    Look,

I"ve not been able to just log on and get into a game this week. I either get suck on the freakin 'loading...' screen, or get locked up running...oh, nowhere in particular, just running!!!!!..or when I zone in..like just after logging in, or going to another zone.

As I type, I'm ATTEMPTING to get into the game...it's my third freakin time having to kill the client and restart it ...JUST TO GET INTO WW. This is absolutely ridiculous and untolerable.

Please tell me why this is occurring now, as I've never had so much trouble just trying to play a game!!! Don't give me the 'it's your computer' as this game is the only one that sucks right now, and every (and I do mean every) other one on this computer runs fine....as did this one until this week!

I have had no problems with all our computers. COuld there be something going bad on yours? When things similar to what you are discribing happened to me, my video card was dying.

I know you don't want to hear its you, but I and anyone else I know have not had this problem......

Maybe your router, modem, or network card are biting the dust?

    Default Video card dying

Well, it's technically possible for them to be going bad....I have an SLI + Ageia PhysX card set up, and it just rocks every other game...this one too when the game decides to actually load.

It could very well be a corrupt file somewhere in the game engine, why who knows it just happens....... I can say that some months ago I had similar problems....... I dumped the whole thing and reinstalled complete.. Problem solved....

    Default Points taken.

Standpoint...miss ya on the podcast...and that may well be the problem. I've reset the modem, router .etc....flushed the cache even taken a look at the routing table etc.

Smatt: yeah, it may well come to that. I hope not, cause it's not the most...accomodating thing to down this client all over again...then wait for it to update itself...sheesh...but I may have to suck it up and do it.

Thanks. I hope to be on the podcast in the near future.

I was having similar problems back around mod 4. I thought it may have been the servers, but it was my router. The router seemed OK in other games, but was definitely 'hanging' in DDO. I went to newegg and bought a new one, and the problems went right away. Of course, I tend to buy the cheapest routers on the market, so I don't expect much out of them. I tend to go for router quantity, not quality.

Sense the last patch my game has been very choppy.. with much slower loads.

This includes the 2 computers at home and the 1 at work that I play on. Also my laptop is duel core but DDO only seems to function through one processor...

I just hope it gets better... not worse...

Depending on which OS you are running, it could be a conflict. Vista is really ****y about DDO for some reason.

I would also delete or otherwise clear from your drive everything you don't need like unused apps, pron vids, etc., then scandisk and defrag, BUT make sure it is on a UPS when you do it.

Give it time... After the patch it is much slower to log in for me too... I thought I was frozen, but after a few minutes I was in and everything was up to speed once I got logged in.

Hopefully Turbine will look at what they did differently on loading and maybe fix it...

Unfortunately we are not getting a ton of reports of problems, so the error probably is with a config or file on your computer. We will be happy to try to help you identify what is happening.

Are you lagging out as in losing connection or are you crashing/freezing up graphically?

If it is the latter please post your dxdiag, if it sounds like network please post your network information (router? firewall? network type, connection type, etc)

i posted something like weeks ago, and i was told it was because of my PC

so after not wanting to buy a new PC, i repaired the game through the steps, and it was brand new again

my issue was that i froze up in certain areas of the game, and only little certain areas

the tech team told me my PC was old and can not run this game(which is not) its like 6 months old, unless technology moves too fast

ive never had issues with the game before, but all i did was repair it, and now it works fine

Glad to hear, if a repair fixed it that means that some game file on the computer got corrupted via a crash or other unexpected event.

While it doesn't sound like it applies to this problem at all, I might suggest adding "IE connection settings" to the portion of your text in parentheses. As I found out the fun way: you can know your network information inside out... but if IE is set to something else, no soup for you!

IM having this same type of problem since Mod 5 went live. I click on my character to log in, but the loading bar only will advance after restarting the client once or twice. Never had this problem before mod 5, but now I have it every time I log in.

Tell me about it! THat's why video card died in the first place. It was trying to run the oh so beautiful Vista Deluxe windows set at the same time as DDO. Or that's whatthe computer geeks who were helping me pick out a card told me. High end graphics games and Vista have issues with each other.

FYI, this is not an issue that you can expect to get many reports on, even though it probably does affect everyone. After the patch, my toon loading in time went from about 20 seconds to about 45 seconds or 1 minute. But it took almost that long to load in before Mod 5, and other (in-game) transitions like going to Gianthold have always taken that long.

Because these kind of long waits have been common over the history of the game, people will not report them. They might be annoyed, but people don't report stuff that they see as normal, even if it is a problem.

Thus, when you do get info like this, you are only going to know the answer if you test it yourself... Load 5 toons in over a 256k connection to a Mod 5 QA server. Then load 5 toons over the same connection to a Mod 5 patched server. I'm betting the latter will be measurably slower.

Either that, or ask the engineers... It is also quite possible that they realized they needed to load more data up front to speed things up during actual play... If this is the case, then it is probably a good thing.

Actually, not much network loading goes on when changing zones or initially loading a character. You're loading big heaping gobs of files, models, textures, map information, etc from your hard drive into ram. If your load times go up after a patch, it's probably because your hard drive is becoming fragmented, and the newly patched files didn't end up where they need to be (which would be right in with all the other files of the same type). Try running a defrag and head on back, I'm interested to know what the results are.
