Default A new "hardcore" level of difficulty

We currently have several levels of difficulty in the game:
    Solo
    Normal
    Hard
    Elite

    I propose a fifth: Hardcore

Which would grant: improved XP and faction favor over elite

However, glancing blows, cleave/g.cleave, friendly ranged fire, and area of effect spells such as Wall of fire or Otto’s sphere all would affect the party!

This would require much different play strategies, and I would predict, better group play and utilization of strategy.

It would be an option upon entry to a new dungeon instance.

Any others feel the same way?

    Regards, -Daemonis
Current Lineup: Daemonis, Jagannath, Engineered, & Nekromanteia

No because it would require them to devote way too much development time to a whole new set of rules to play by and I would rather they get the game finished up to L20 with all the spells, feats, races and other things people want first.

Just make a Hardcore server. No rezz shrines. If you have to click out of a quest after dieing, you go back to character creation screen, and leave a corpse that your party can loot, leaving 3-4 times that you were wearing. Reroll time!

Also don't post the same thread iin multiple forums :P

It wouldn't require much development time... it is mostly just setting appropriate flags to have the regular game behave more like the PvP arena.

That said, in the OP's case there is too much incentive to run that way. As I said in this thread in this article you want some incentive to run that way, but not too much or it will become "required" to run that way. If it is "required" there will be too much potential for griefing in PUGs.

Granting more favor would make it "required" IMO. Best would be to just raise the level by 1 (which raises the loot by 1 along with mob difficulty), but nothing else (not even the XP bonus I mention in my linked article).

Raising the loot level by 1 gives a decent incentive... but raising the mob level by 1 and friendly fire would make it significantly more difficult to benefit from the extra loot level.

Default ..developer's nightmare. ..but we're so cute!

yup..though the details of what we might find in such a setting can (and will) be "contentious", to say the least. My thoughts would be to attach it in some way to a 32-point build reward. Then along the same vein, rework a number of low level quests to really push the limits of the jaded and desperate for a new challenge "people-behind-the Digital-Balloons". Then, when 32-point builds begin their illustrious careers they might receive that new or fresh perspective many of us only receive with each new Mod. How many of us remember our first death? Mine? Easy! STK....soloing, level 2 dwarf barbarian...Arcane guilding a locked door. The rising wail of it's spawning, that horrid green veil....the echoing crack of it's lightning? Is any death as intense as the first? lol. 'Course, I'm always one for trying to balance our "give-me-give-me's" with the occasional "give-back". Sooo...I, for One-32-point-build, do solemnly swear, to never again milk quests for exp or complain about that level 7 cloak of elven kind for a level 12 quest! .......really!

    no...please, cube? reeeally! really.

No thanks. Just means we have to run all the quests 4 times instead of 3.

Sure... I don't have to run the "so hard its stupid" level, but then I won't have the favor for it and I won't get whatever the next level of uber favor reward you are planning to ask for if this gets implemented.

So again, to this thread and the 12 before it asking the same thing... no thanks.

These quests would be more geared towards characters that can solo or stay away from each other, mainly due to safety issues involved with having others around you. I can foresee a fair amount of the tactics involved in this form of questing as "Ok, let the arcane go and slaughter everything and we will sit here". This will damage the online grouping experience more than it will enhance it in the long run, especially with number inflations that plague online games.

Agreed. That's why I advocate for no extra favor, no extra XP. Bump up the level by 1 to make it more challenging and to give the loot a +1 boost. That will be incentive enough for the well oiled teams to want to attempt it without making it "required" like Elite is required.

It would be interesting to see that. A lot of arcane soloing is done with the knowledge that you can run through your own CC and spells. In a friendly fire scenario the arcane would not be able to do so easily... that 100+ damage per tick firewall you cast will smoke right through any protection / resist 30.
