    Default Elf elf

I'm working on a Elf, in the classic AD&D sense - magic and melee mixed together effectively.

Normally, I'd go with PrCs to do it in PnP, but seeing as how we don't have any....

Right now, I've got a 1/1 Elven fighter/wizard. I don't really know what I can work towards, since I'm pretty noobish to DDO.

I know that I don't want to just be a gimped fighter that relies on buffs to equal a normal fighter - then I'm just using all my SP to buff myself, and coming out about equal to a pure class, which isn't the point.

I'm thinking I can do a pretty good job focusing on direct damage spells and CC spells, and a rapier.

Right now, I've built the following:

    Elven Fighter 1/Wiz 1

    S: 14
    D: 18
    C: 12
    I: 14
    W: 8
    C: 8

Feats: Weapon Finesse, Toughness, Empower. I think I can push Empower back to level 5.

So, suggestions for me? It seems like nuking is an easier way to go - you don't have to have such obscenely high DCs. CC is a good secondary for the utility, as long as I pick the right targets. And then melee to fill in the damage.

Is this viable? In PnP, I know I'd just regret it, but enhancments seem like enough to make this doable in DDO....
I play on Ghall...Gall..Galli...The new Fernia. Lifetaker, Heartbreaker, and Battlemage
Terrakal: Roguey Stabby guy. Gyness the Stout: I drink to hide my rage. Gyshe: Race: Elf. Class: Elf. Roomsweeper: Boomsticks. Ramparts: Pally Intimitank. Crucible: Hammer and Tongs. And Shafted: Cleric* Archer *Not a cleric.

Here's my 2nd ed. elven bladesinger build for reference. He's very fun to play. DDO is much more oriented toward min/max than PnP. unless you are going with weapon finese, I would lower the dex and bump up int or str. Primary weapon is longsword.

Generaly if you take more than a token number of combat levels you will want to go all buffs/damage. Damage casting is quite effective if you totaly go for broke with it. CC can work, but it takes a lot more investment in stats and levels than damage casting does, because CC is all or nothing and damage is more like 100% or 80%.

If you go with a dex fighter like that, be prepared to be a stat-damage/effect combatant rather than a melee damage dealer. Its by far the best way to go with a finesse fighter alghouth bane weapons and the like are workable.

With my fighter/wizard I can anhialate stuff that takes con damage, but I am mostly just irritating things that don't. (of course I can usualy just throw damage spells at those )
