Exclamation IMPORTANT: Old bug that can seriously affects NEW Mod5 raid:altered trajectory

Many wizards/sorcs are all too aware of this old bug when casting spells such a lighting bolt etc.

A party member standing at a certain spot will alter the trajectory of a thrown weapon or spell projectile.
If said party member is behind you, in front of you or possibly some other odd spots the projectile can fly up towards ceiling or even up and BEHIND you as demonstraded in the screen shots.

Now normally this wouldn't be HUGE issue to raiding, but say there's a new raid where you have to throw boulder (think coal) at stuff and cast an ice ball into some water with 0 margin for error, well then things get pear shaped!

    http://imageduck.com/v/axebugs.jpg

Frame 1: Notice the throwing axe goes UP and BEHIND ?
Frame 2: Again the axe is delfected upwards
Frame 3: With the party member out of the way now, the axe flies straight and true.

There are times when we dont have the luxury of avoiding this bug, please consider these 2 factors when patching the Mod5 raid this weekend.

    Thx, gpk

    I have never seen this..
Nor been able to replicate it.

Does it only work with Axes? Daggers? Arrows? Hammers?

I've blasted more ceiling tiles than I can count because someone ran through me, past me or up to me as I was casting. Or I have a monster targetted and it dies just as I launch my fireball so the spell flies high and wide of where I wanted it. Combats are chaotic at times and you can't guarantee people won't cross your line of fire or your target will still be there half a second from now.

Do you generally select your target? It works with all missile attacks(and something similar happens with some summon like attacks, such as web and firewall), but it only happens when you manually aim using the reticule, it does not happen if you have a target selected and cast, shoot or throw. EDIT: reading the post above me i recall, that it can happen if you have something targeted and the target is killed or charmed as you are casting. That's the only circumstance where it happens if you target something that i can recall, and i don't think i've seen it happen with bows, crossbows, or thrown weapons under that circumstance, just spells. Ideally under such a circumstance the spell should be cast at the position your target was at when you started the cast.

This one's been bothering me since i first started playing back in mod2. And i'm a little surprised every time i go on a few months hiatus and come back and find it still hasn't been fixed. Hopefully tubine will address it eventually.

    • NEW – Tip #52 no longer mistakenly says that the Jump skill reduces falling damage. The appropriate skill is, in fact, tumble.

this bug also manifests itself when your trying to cast spells on a location as well. ie place a solid fog, fire wall dancing ball etc.. if someone gets in the way you get a target out of range message.

What you mean my feet are out of range?? #@!$##

All thrown weapons, arrows, bolts, ray spells, "a to b" spells(Otiluke's, Fireball, etc), Web, ... basically anything that doesn't happen RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE gets deflected unless there is no Line of Sight or Location check to it(like Deific Vengeance and Finger of Death, which happen instantly)

LOLOLOLOL.. OK, so we want to be able to cast spells and attack THROUGH people standing front of us???? I mean seriously now, your friend should have an axe stuck in the back of his head. I dont' think this is a bug as much as it is a simple animation solution to show that if you want to attack something and there's a friendly in the way, there's a chance of deflection etc.....

Yet I can stand inside other party members and swing swords through them. Until you can't occupy the same location as a party member this is a bug.
