Default Data center issue after today's update

    EDIT: PROBLEM SOLVED... SEE BELOW

I run two accounts, on two computers.

Logged off both last night, all was well. Today while I was at work an update was installed on my main computer... the second computer was disconnected from the network at the time.

Today, when I came home, the main computer connects just fine to DDO. The second computer gets stuck on the "Getting Data Centers" problem.

I have restarted the second computer, restarted the router, and even tried connecting the second computer straight into the modem (to eliminate router issues), all attempts resulted in the same thing... "Getting Data Centers".

    Help!

I assume your second computer can connect to the net fine?

That's the kind of error you get when there is no net connection or the firewall is blocking it.
    Code:
Sil - Human Paladin 14 Lava Divers Tad - Drow Wizard 14
     Semolina - Elf Rog 13/Ftr 1 on Rava - Drow Sorceror 7
Riddikulus - Human Cleric 14 Khyber Clamor - Warforged Barb 7
     Durum - Dwarf Ftr 10/Pal 3/Rng 1 Ridd - Dwarf Ftr 6/Rog 2/Pal 2

Yeah, no problem on getting to the net.

Checked firewall settings, nothing has changed

    Default Ah-ha!

Okay, discovered the problem... surprised this wasn't on the support desk's list of things to check (well, perhaps it is, but it needs some refining).

During the day today, I had to switch to Internet Explorer to get a webpage to work properly. Had to switch the connection from "automatically detect" to a proxy server. Since I only use IE when forced, I didn't think to switch it back.

Running Ethereal showed DDO was sending name requests to a proxy server... huh?

After some digging on these forums, someone mentioned DDO using IE's connection settings to connect to the internet. So I fired up IE (/shudder) and changed back it's connection settings... POOF! DDO fired up and was ready to roll.

I recommend turbine support add this to their questioning of one's connection. The guy I was chatting with asked about my connection - proxies, router, etc., but didn't ask what IE itself was set to. I'm sure I'm not the only one who can't remember the last time they used Internet Exploiter... erm, Exploder, uh... IE.
