Update: I tried putting my widescreen monitor in a 4:3 aspect ratio resolutioon (1200 by 1000 or whatever the number is). This created a non-widescreen desktop area with vertical black bands on the sides (sort of like if you watch a widescreen movie on a 4:3 normal TV, though in that case you get horizontal black bars on the top and bottom).

The game STILL looked squashed down by about 25%.

Personally, I can barely stand to look at the game now since I know what it's supposed to be like. My play time has dropped from 10 to 0.5hours a day (on my days off at least), and if its going to stay like this it will go lower...I compare it to playing on low vs Ultra high. Could this problem be at least aknowledged and give us some hope of a soonish fix?

I have a similar drop in playtime, sadly.

I do happen to be in the middle of my planned upgrade for my system (just need the MB to come in) when I do complete the upgrade I will see if the new graphics card will help, or if I am screwed as long as I keep my widescreen monitor. I'll post the DXDiag either way. (if it works, then a comparison can be made between new and old system for a solution....maybe?)

If you have my motherboard (which should have come in yesterday) you can stay....otherwise go get it then we'll through a PC building party, no need to be dejected...

Ditto. The first pic is clearly the stretched incorrect AR one.
Perhaps they fixed your AR in mod5 and all along mod1-4 you were using an incorrect one.

Best way to get an accurate test is to take a screenshot of something thats meant to be round. Bless or haste spell with your view tilted directly up works well. If its oval, it's wrong, its round its right. Simple enough.
I think you might find its right and you just got used to tall skinny characters.
For me, mod4 had a bad default AR, changing it to normal fixed it. Do you remember your mod4 AR setting?

Mod5 defaults to auto - which is the same as normal was for mod4 for me. New normal is too wide, and wide is way too wide.

Anyways yea they changed it somehow.. But had no effect on my system, using a similar monitor too. Samsung 226bw.

Well, i see im not the only one who says it looks better or the same as I see on my LCD.

I remember awhile back that they said DDO was not set to be use on a widescreen monitor. That has changed now, and now everything should be portional. like the OP 2nd picture.

It may have been stretched/incorrect before (although previously haste etc was always round) but it's been that way since Launch, I've gotten too used to it being that way to just suddenly switch now, it hurts me to look at the screen and not know what I'm looking at. I just hope I get used to it, although seeing as I have played maybe 1 hour since the release of mod 5 because I can't stand the graphics, it may take me a while.

Absolutly still an issue. Is there anything we can do to help this get resloved? If a dxdiag is needed just say the work but please work on this issue.

If this is your first post in this thread, yes you need a dxdiag posted - also make sure that you have bugged it ingame.

Thing is, the char select screen is still as it was before, the picture in the focus orb is proportioned and circular as it should, and haste is circular (not sure it was before, but I have a feeling it creates a circle regardless of screen stretching kind of like the focus orb).
This points to the new squashed look being the correct one right?
EXCEPT: those big round doors that roll out of the way? They are so NOT round now, its just goofy-looking.

It does NOT go to normal in windowed mode. Ive tried.

You're system/setup must be different (perhaps your windowed mode is 16x9, which makes the chars normal but the focus orb and every other overlay a weird shape, while your widescreen is a proper 16x10).

Try windowed mode without specifying an AR. You should be able to set the resolution alone, and that should make the aspect ratio display all graphics correctly. If not, bug it in-game.

I just bought one of these and hooked it up, the game looks beautiful. 1680x1050. Wow what a difference.

I just got a 16 x 9 aspect monitor, the Samsung 932bw (native resolution 1440 x 900), and I now have the same "squished characters" problem. Also, I would try to bug report this in-game as Altumus suggests, but the "bug report" form is bugged! After filling out the form it says you must specify a category, but there is no where to do so. AAAArrrrggghhh!!! When you can't report bugs because the bug report is bugged, there are way too many bugs guys. I mean, come on.

Anyway, back to the aspect ratio problem. I have tried every resolution and combination of Norm vs. Wide settings and everything results in squished toons. Normal is bad, and wide is simply horrifying. My dxdiag:

My problem is now resolved. For some reason, right after I installed the new monitor and latest geforce 6600 drivers, I did not have the "auto" option under aspect ratio on the "select character" opening screen. I had normal and wide but no auto. Yesterday night, a friend told me to look again while in-game, and there it was. I selected "auto" and all the toons went back to normal. Hurray, happiness!

I hope this might possibly help someone else out there. My monitor's native resolution is 1440 x 900, and that is what I have the game options set to as well. The only other change I made was changing the refresh rate from 75 mhz to 60 (because that is recommended on the Samsung website), but I don't know if that had anything to do with resolving the issue or not.

Good luck guys. If you have any questions, PM me and I will try to help. I'm no expert, but I will at least tell you what my settings are now that things are functional.
