    Unhappy Homage

That is truly sad. Great things happen in September.

I know others will disagree, but this is truly one of the greatest fictional fantasy authors to ever publish. A friend and I joked that he'd die before he ever finished The Wheel of Time Series. We were only half-joking, of course -- I wish he had finished.

It was only last week that I had last discussed some of his writings with another fantasy-enthusiast. This is a great loss for the entire realm of fantasy, not just one series. It's without a doubt that his efforts lead others to write their own novels.

Although I'm not a fan of The Wheel Of Time series, I'm sorry to hear about his death. Sucks for people that liked that ****.

I've been reading RJ since I was 14 years old... his last... 5 or 6 have been fairly... um... annoying, but it's one of those things... you just have to see how its going to end.

The man himself is a very impressive individual. I've had the pleasure of talking back and forth with him via email on occasions over the net while he was sick - and he always presented a positive outlook on life.

Do you think we will know how it ends?

After New Spring was released I gave up on reading them until the series was finished. I was very disappointed that he released a prequal in the middle of the ongoing series. Is there any news on how far he got through book 12?

He told his wife Harriet and his brother/cousin Wilson, and they are supposed to have it ghostwritten and published as his last request...

So, I guess there will be something published... eventually.

    I really liked this writer.

The first 4 books in this sereies were amazing, the next 6 not so much, but the the last book, book 11, was a fine return to form.

For those interested, the scuttlebut is that the 12th and final book is already in the editors hands with few if any alterations to come.

My condolances to the family and my empathies to the fans.

As you can tell by my handle, I am a huge fan of the Wheel of Time series. Robert Jordan will probably go down as one the greatest fantasy writers ever; up there with Tolkien. For those of you who've never read it, it is probably the most in depth/detailed/complex/longest fantasy series ever written. I highly recommend it.

I for one have been looking forward to the completion of this series for a long time now. When I heard Jordan was terminally ill I had a strange feeling that he was going to die before finishing the last book. The good news is that he has had the last chapter of the book written since the series started. Its just a sad thing to see one dedicate so many years of one's life to something they could never see finished.

This was written by his brother/cousin (its an odd thing) Wilson a week before his death:

    4th of 3

Epilog: Yes he is continuing to work through all of this medical calamity. MOL (Memories of Light) is going into the word processor and onto audio tapes almost daily. Not every day mind you, because the medical fight takes first priority. But, he told you he’d finish and he will. Fact is that it has been finished in his head for years. During a recent family sit around, he became the Gleeman and told the bones of it ALL to Harriet and me. You read that right, I did say ALL. Don’t ask, ain’t telling. Two and a half hours of story telling by the Creator himself went by in the twinkling of an eye. Truly magical. All I can say is WOW! Best stuff he’s ever done. MOL is going to knock your socks off! That’s a promise.

Not so odd - he's a cousin with whom he's so close that they consider themselves brothers.
