Default DDO Mail System Updgrade Idea to END SPAM

    Dear DDO Developers,

#1 Could every player, that is, your paying customers : ) - please have the option to check box on a new feature (aka mail white list) which would only allow mails to be received from:

    1) all of their created characters to their other characters
    2) all of the players on their current Friends list
    3) all of their Guild members

But, NO ONE ELSE-like all these transient 'dfxywff' type characters/people out there constantly sending us all Terms of Service violating solicitations to purchase with real money DDO platinum/items!

#2 In addition to the current 'Score Card' CTRL-X end of quest report's 'player monster number of killed list', could we please also have next to each player's name there, a 'Total Monster Hit Points Damage Inflicted' statistic for each party member?

(I'm tired of people stealing my kills! lol which btw, is ultimately a waste/counterproductive to 'winning' a given (Elite) quest, ideally, a cooperative party would purposefully try not to 'steal kills' form each other at the last moment of a monster's health, but do the opposite)

Total damage inflicted though, would be a more accurate statistic of a player's overall effectiveness, don't you agree?

#3 Congratulations on the major improvement to the Auction House search function. It is much more ergonomic and functional now. I would like to see in the future it taken one step further though, with a simple stand alone global Keyword Search function. So that, for example, I could click on Keyword Search and type in "Ghost Touch" and all Ghost Touch items would be listed, or any such items matching the entered keyword from the item's description or title. Please include the ability to utilize quotes to specify an AND or truely exact phrase search, or an OR search for multiple words without quotes by default.

(By the way-currently there is no way to specify single level search or level X to X search, where X is the same level number twice, you might want to add that functionality.)

#4 It is my opinion, and I would like to see in the future, that when my character takes off a Spell Point Power I, II, II etc. item, and then later puts that Power item back on, that his/her extra Spell Points from that item, should also come back (like Hit Points with a Constitution item). After all, why should the Power item effectively lose it's 'power' just by taking it off? Currently, those Spell Points are lost, and not regained until the character rests again with the Power item equipped.

    Creatively Yours,

Wishing you success and future great development new, attractive and ergonomic ideas,

Only commenting on the mail portion.

So much could be avoided if they just put a SPAM button on all the mail somewhere, that you could click and have it auto generate a spam report to the CSR's.

Not a bad idea overall. If I did want to have someone send me an item that wasn't already on my list I could simply add them in. With the new export/import functions on the friends list it is easy to get your list all set up on a new character as well.

    No, I don't.

The arcane/divine that holds a monster gets 0 kill points and 0 damage, but it is they who basically killed that mob. The Ranger that provides the Elemental Resistances for the whole party as well as Barkskin or the Bard with Good Hope that mezzes all the mobs, do not get kills or damage for those actions and those mean a lot more than "Look, Thog critted for 300 points of damage."

The Fighter that builds up his defenses and Intimidates all the mobs onto himself so that others can go to town with heavy damage and not burn through a Cleric's SPs in two fights is JUST as effective as someone built for DPS. (before you jump on me about AC... AC is only worthless at endgame)

Keywords would be nice, or a search by prefix/sufix. BTW, there is currently a way to do a single level search. Say I am looking for a Cloak of Greater <element> Resistance. I put 11 in the first box and 11 in the second box, select cloaks and hit search. Now I have only level 11 cloaks and those type fall in that level range.

Actually... the items that offer bonus HPs should just work like the SP items, not the other way around or their could be abuse.

Bingo. Some form of auto-report email that will send the mail and sender's name to Turbine, so they can see the mail as it is, and not have to deal with people taking screenshots and trying to email them to Turbine or typing out full reports of the same thing all the time.

It would make things much easier on the players and probably a whole lot easier on Turbine.

    Simple, yet wonderful idea Cow!

After 3 SPAM reports the offenders location is verified and tac-nuked.

that's assuming that the csr's would actually do something about it.

what they need to do is remove the ability to send mail from trial accounts.

    How about this:

step #1 trail characters cannot send mail or tells (general chat is OK)

    step #2 Done

If they wanna send spam on their main accounts fine, they get banned.
If they wanna spam general chat with promo, fine they get banned

this way I can send out random gifts to people who dont know me, as I tend to do. You dont wanna refuse a free +3 flaming burst hvy mace of greater giant bane from your anonymous friend just because u r afraid of a little spam do you? or that +5 wisdom helm uve always wanted.

I would prefer having a mail 'white list' (as per the OP) to limiting trial accounts.

i think they should remove the kill counts alltogether and NOT add damage counts in.

The mana item thing would not be a good idea in my opinion as it would be abused

and any upgrades to AH functionality is fine by me (although to be fair i'm pretty happy with it at this point)

so.. overall i guess agree with the OP on two items, and disagree on two

Man, all those lowbie characters that I randomly mail nice things to would be pretty screwed after this change.

I don't feel that spam mail is sufficiently large of a problem in this game, as it is, to start implementing draconian restrictions on who can or can't send mail.

It's rife with problems. I don't want to have to add every nice person to my friends list just to be able to get a mail from them on occasion. I add only those that are actually my friends and a few of my enemies on there (gotta remember why you don't like em ). It seems like it would cause more problems than it solves.

Are you paranoid, or just cursed with joining lousy groups? I have never really encountered this... people hit whatever monster they can when they can.

Additionally, has been stated elsewhere, kills, and by association damage, are not the only contributions to a mission's success.

You would have to start tracking a % of damage given to the Mage who cast haste on you, stats for hitpoints healed on each person, stats for monsters incapacitated/ charmed, and a whole slew of other stats to figure out contribution.

In the end... what is the point? You know, without a big ledger sheet, who contributed overall. If you failed, you probably know that, too. I don't think that it serves any point except for some arbitrary digital-ding-dong comparison.

This I can get behind. It should have been there in the first place, but I guess it might not have been added because of the slowdown on whichever database it operates off of, or laziness, or both, or neither. Who knows, but it would make life easier.

As others have said, the potential for abuse of a poorly coded system would be rife with exploits.

Additionally, they are mimicking how they work in paper and pencil, I would imagine. While a ring of spell storing, which actually stores the spells in it, would contain the (small number of) spells in it after you take it off, Power/Wizardry items, are global "Wizardry X" substitute items don't actually hold the spells for you, but enable your body/brain to hold more than normal.

If you've already used that excess, then you really lose nothing. You lose storage capacity enablement whose contents were already used up.

False life items work in a similar fashion, if I recall. They don't, themselves, give you greater health, they give you greater capacity for health. You take off the items, and your hitpoints vanish. Put on the item, and you have a lack of hitpoints due to a higher maximum. Con items boost your base-healthiness, giving you more hitpoints instantaneously.

I hope I've adequately illustrated the differences between these two concepts.

I am fairly certain that I would have never joined this game if I couldn't send tells to my other friends who were also starting trial accounts, or to other people to ask them questions.

Amen. I regularly send out +5 thieves tools to low level rogues because why should they go to waste.

    Wrong.

And to the OP. I like the mail ideas and that.

About the Power items... the False Life items take off the amount of HP they give, and don't give it back when you put it back on. Only items that affect your stats that affect hp/sp give back the hp/sp they took off when you removed the item.
