Default No Weapon Effect on Glancing Blows

I think if you sacrificed 3 feats towards being a great 2 handed fighter you should get the benefit of having your disrupt, smite, vorpal, burst, greater bane, maim or whatever effect happen on a glancing blow.

Or at least consider enhancements towards a percentage of glancing blows to have the weapons effect ie

Glancing Blow Uberness 1 Pre-req greater 2hf chain: You have a 20% chance your glancing blow will deal weapon effects and extra damage modifiers
    Glancing Blow Uberness 2: 35%
    Glancing Blow Uberness 3: 55%
    Glancing Blow Uberness 4: 70%

Thats just a suggestion balance it however you like, but when a mob has 3000 more hp than they would in PnP to create a better gaming challenge you could throw us a bone too. Giving up 3 feats is no small ummm...feat.

Back when this was "broken" and the effects did go off I never felt it was unbalanced except in the case of people who werent actually 2 handed fighters. It was nice I'll admit. So maybe you could bring this back for those who sacrificed 3 toughnesses, or their saves, or weapon proficiency or whatever so they could build the best 2 handed fighting damager possible.

I can see all the THF rogues being born. 70% chance to have every glancing blow do 7d6.

    How about No.

Haha, you gotta admit though when you are sneaking with a +5 FLAMING BURST GREATAXE in your hands that is just hilarious!
Especially the Looney Toons whack you over the head with a mallet animation you do.

And anyway Greater THF requires a BAB of 11 which rogues wouldnt have not to mention sacrificing their INT and DEX to hit 17 base STR required and sacrificing three feats in a class that doesnt get granted any extra. Sure you could mutant multi-class a nice one, still wouldnt be 7d6 though. And like I said the Devs can balance it however they like, maybe the enhancement wouldnt be available to rogues at all and again 70% is just an example.

Heh, its called "Cleave" and "Great Cleave" and "Whirlwind Attack"

They do what you are suggesting. Glancing blows are extra damage, even to your main target, doubling up weapon effects on one swing would be way too good.

Crit effects and special effects no. I agree.

But if a weapon is engulfed in flames... maybe a little 1d6 flame damage tacked on there wouldn't hurt.

As it is, you don't get a roll and thus can't -crit- on a glancing blow, so no smiting banishing or vorpalling, but if a weapon has an effect that works on mere contact, it should happen on a glancing blow. (Yes, I know, cleave and great cleave get rolls against all mobs and can crit, but that's a special attack, so slightly different.

So elemental, alignment, and disruption, yes.

No, simply no. Two-Handed Figthing is doing its job, more would be too powerful. We can complete quests easily with a bit of brain and skill. We do not need further help, and if there is a style that needs help it is certainly not Two-Handed Figthing.

And by the way, 70% is wayyyyyyyyyy to much.

I think the same, but it's more a question of balance. than logic here.

How does 1d6 of flaming damage unbalance the game?

If it's about the disruption, heck, half the undead mobs are practically immune to it in the first place, with saves so high that they literally have to roll a 1 to fail a save against it... a few more swings here and there wouldn't hurt.

Really, balance over logic... what a slippery slope that is.

I agree it would be too powerful to get right now.

But I think its a good idea for when superior two handed fighting comes out.

And weapons effects don't mean unlimited sneak attack dmg, not sure where you got that idea. That never happened back when THF was bugged to allow weapon effects. They just sorta worked like cleave, every hit did the xtra bane dmg, chance to paralyze, disrupt, etc. Was like that for several weeks and wasn't too crazy powerful or anything.

Crazy powerful = Sword of shadows. (has no special weapon effects)
Xtra weapon effects = nice to have.

That's more than 3,5 more damage per hit, it does not unbalance the game, but it's a huge increase in overall DPS.

Just curious how does a Dex build 2 Weapon Fighter have anything to do with this thread at all?

Essentially, you're asking for near-permanent cleave -- a feat which has its own timer for a very good reason.

Ageeed that it would be too powerful but what about this instead: In the case of say a flaming weapon it only adds 1d2 points of damage. You would get the logic of a swinging flaming axe without the unbalancing damage numbers.

I don't think OP said anything about sneak attack (which is a special attack, not an effect).

Flaming weapons should def. burn on glancing blows. Shock weapons should shock. Bane weapons should bane. Not sure about banishers banishing or vorpals vorping though. Critical hit effects should really only hit the primary target.
