Default Is everyone as tired of running around as i am?

Having to run to every single destination is tiresome, and if I was a tavern owner, i would make things, i.e. trinkets, rings, scrolls, wands ... something, that would allow you to instantly teleport to my tavern no matter where you where. of course they could have like 1 charge per rest, that way I would make sure that the buyer of this product would stick around use the facilities.

Just an idea from someone who is tired of running across stormreach.

I invite you to give WoW a try, Final Fantasy, or what ever have you of the many other MMOs out there. Compare them to here, then I shall allow you to complain your little heart away due to the fact of how much great shape you have for running HOURS on end just to get from point A to point B for a singular quest.

Games where "Be there in 30" is actually considered speedy.

What's the longest run you've ever had to make? And how long did that take?
Looking to (re-)acquire the character name Thelonious on Ghallanda server.

The few minutes it takes to get from A to B here is nothing.

    It's a blessing.

    Relish it.

This game is actually pretty light when it comes to travel as a time sink. I believe that was one of the initial goals. To be able to get in the game, in a group, and in a quest farily quickly. Not to mention that running around the world and seeing all the activity is the difference between feeling like you are a part of a massive world (MMO), and just jumping on Xbox live to play a quick pick up game.

Back when i used to play SWG, i remember pointing my toon towards the Empire's base on Hoth, turning on autorun and going to eat dinner. I would come back 45 minutes later and he still wouldn't be there yet. Ahh the good old days. Did i mention that it was in 5 feet of snow and uphill... Both ways. And we liked it. :-D

From what I hear, other games are much worse in this regard. This does not mean the OP doesn't have a good idea. That might be pretty cool. You could pick one up at the same point you bind. One charge, teleport you back. Interesting ...

Edit: I like the idea more and more. You don't have to use it if you don't want to (for those who like to run).

    Hehe. Good example.

Hoth? They must have added that well after I left.

Tired of running? No. Tired of numerous loading screens to get from point A to point B, yes. But even then, my main pet peeve is buff timers. If buff timers did not keep decreasing when stuck on loading screens, I might not care about loading screens at all.

Default Guess I am just spoiled

In Ultima Online there was these things called rune stones, and casters could mark them anywhere, even in dungeons, and anyone with a little bit of magic could use a recall scroll to go to that point, and any wizard, could actually cast a Gate spell, which would open a 2-way gate that anyone could go through on either side. One point of the gate where the caster was and the other point on the gate where the rune was marked. In this respect is why I am complaining. Was not aware of the trauma for Star Wars players or WoW players, didnt mean to hit a sore spot. Just thought it would be a good idea for the Tavern owners to do that, would be a small gold sink if they where disposable rather than 1/rest clicky's.

While its a good idea, IMO, the world we have is just to small.

The UO example, spells were there to create the stones, Mark and Recall. Same with Gate. While they were somewhat part of UO lore and worked well there, he, not so much IMO.

We might have better luck with Teleport/Word of Recall going back to your bind point.

Well my actually idea was to have the tavern owners selling stuff to get back to their respective tavern.

Those are some freaking rich tavern owners then. I think the silver flame could be rich enough by comparison.

This already exists, it's called /death. Once you use it, you can teleport to your last bind point instantly. It has an XP cost associated with it, but you can easily work that off by questing or resting in a tavern (or even when offline).

    Bring the noise.
    Cheers............

Either you left UO a long time ago or you don't hunt in the areas that disallow marking runes. There are alot of place you have to run to in UO. Anywhere in Iish, in Dungeons of Fel, and Lost Lands Fel. Granted UO world isn't nearly as big as SWG and WOW.

I still play UO some and you can get anywhere in UO in about 10 mins of running. I remember the 1st year of SWG where it took 45 min to a hour of running to get from one town to the next.

The teleport gates help. I just recently found out that you can teleport to the marketplace from any of the gates, making getting to a tavern, trainer, in the marketplace, or the tent, a little shorter run.

I remember in the early times not having the money to buy shuttle tickets because all my money was going into the stupid mining machines. I only had the money to hop to the plants I needed to go to. I had to run from the main town all over the freaking plant just to collect my stuff off each machine. It was so much like work spent 4-5 hours a day running just to collect my stuff for crafting and being broke most of the time because of the cost of keeping up machines and housing.

I didn't last long on SWG I left right as Jump to Lightspeed release. I beta tested it and hated jump to lightspeed so I left.
