Sounds like a good idea, the only thing I would encourage would be to let people choose their basic build (class race etc) then help them make it very well. I've found that the most unorthodox and "automatically gimped" combinations are the most fun to play. Just because it's not the absolute best, doesn't mean that it sucks. Everyone has a dwarf fighter, since they are the most beneficial race for a fighter, but can you stand out as something different? That's the real test (and challenge) for a good player.

Just to clear something up Loki I did say that the members from Legion were GOOD players. As far as attitude as you mentioned you have been in a party with me so no I was not talking about you. I have met some very friendly members of Legion but also have met some that weren't so nice. As far as meeting you in Tor or what not if you feel the need sure but really not needed. I tend to stick within my guilds when running much of anything. One reason why we do so well is because we know each others playstyle. So what works for you may not entirely work with you. Again good luck in the training and I do welcome the new members of the game.

Have you considered how your wife and her friend may want to experience the game? Does she have any real interest in running through quests at mach 5 for loot that legion already has in spades?

I wish you the best of luck in bringing your interests and reasons for playing DDO to somewhere that you can enjoy together. I doubt it will be easy, or fast.

LOL... I've run with him and his wife... (nice lady btw... why'd she marry you? lol )... and Loki ain't joking. He's not the best teacher. The only way I learn from him is through osmosis... you have to have a good skill set already to run with him (Ren, Onobi, Drak, etc inc too...), or you'll get left in the dust. I've learned a lot from these guys (and many others, nods to Cali, Ministry, Halifax, Gratchek, Oninopheous, Swik, etc etc), and to be honest... I sure would'nt want to be a noob and have to do the runs that we do, at the speeds taht are done... it would just be no fun.

So, before some of you craven turdsters out there start flaming Loki for some stupid issue that YOU have, maybe you should look at the heart of his initial post.

1st. He wants to have his wife and her friend join the game! He wants to share something that he enjoys with her... and thats cool.

2nd. He wants to become a teacher! That's not going to be easy for him and if Loki can do this, rest assured... his skillset with increase ten-fold... can you imagine how hard this will be for a guy who just does a quest? Now, he'll give the basics (the build concept, and what to do when... i.e. shield walling etc) and then sit back to let them figure out the rest. That'll take patience, time and understanding... and remember this... he CAN'T just boot or explode on these folkes for being idiots!!!! He has to live with one of them... OUCH... Loki will be learning as much as he is teaching

3rd... while this might sound like an insult to some of you, it definitely isn't. He's looking for a few other folkes to help him work on a plan to teach some folkes he cares about how to play the game, in a manner that will obviously be less zerg-style than what is normally done. If you can't be bothered to be helpful here... then SHUT THE HELL UP.

    ..............

Pixa/Gorloch... yer awesome... you have my respect.

Paintedhorse... ty for offering help. Unbound is awesome, and I consider you guys some of my best friends on the server.

Pana.. looking forwards to running with you... I'll go make a WF Pally, Cleric, Sorc mix

    and to

Loki... you know I'll help with this plan, if you need a filler toon. PM me if you need another party member...

Yep. Chick with a bow. Solonora is another of my girls that have received the benefit of Brookiebutt's teachings. Von3 was especially fun.

Even though the teaching method will not include a fast paced 'zerg' playstyle that legion is known for, is that not the ultimate goal of this training? To achieve a level of ability where this man's spouse can accompany him on guild runs and so forth? That is merely why I asked if that was what she was interested in. I do sincerely hope you are able to reach an appreciation of the game with your wife, but in that process you may be required to play the game in a different way than you are accustomed to. The success of many relationships include compromise. She may be joining in the play because you enjoy it so greatly but each player will only continue to play the game if they enjoy it in their own way.

    Good luck to you both.

    Default hmmm..

    MAN IN BLACK
All right: where is the poison?
The battle of wits has begun. It
ends when you decide and we both
drink, and find out who is right
    and who is dead.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 45.

    VIZZINI
But it's so simple. All I have to
do is divine from what I know of
you. Are you the sort of man who
would put the poison into his own
    goblet, or his enemy's?

He studies the Man In Black now.

    VIZZINI
Now, a clever man would put the
    poison into his own goblet,
because he would know that only a
great fool would reach for what
he was given. I'm not a great
fool, so I can clearly not choose
the wine in front of you. But you
must have known I was not a great
fool; you would have counted on
it, so I can clearly not choose
the wine in front of me.

    MAN IN BLACK
    (And now there's a
    trace of nervousness beginning)
    You've made your decision then7

    VIZZINI
    Not remotely. Because iocane
    comes from Australia, as everyone
    knows. And Australia is entirely
    peopled with criminals. And
    criminals are used to having
people not trust them, as you are
not trusted by me. So I can
clearly not choose the wine in
    front of you.

    MAN IN BLACK
    Truly, you have a dizzying
    intellect.

    VIZZINI
Wait till I get going! Where was I?

    MAN IN BLACK
    Australia.

    VIZZINI
Yes -- Australia, and you must
have suspected I would have known
the powder's origin, so I can
clearly not choose the wine in
    front of me.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 46.

    MAN IN BLACK
    (very nervous)
    You're just stalling now.

    VIZZINI
    (cackling)
You'd like to think that, wouldn't
    you?
(stares at the Man in Black)
    You've beaten my giant, which
    means you're exceptionally strong.
So, you could have put the poison
in your own goblet, trusting on
your strength to save you. So I
can clearly not choose the wine
in front of you. But, you've also
    bested my Spaniard which means
you must have studied. And in
    studying, you must have learned
that man is mortal so you would
have put the poison as far from
yourself as possible, so I can
clearly not choose the wine in
    front of me.

As Vizzini's pleasure has been growing throughout, the Man
In Black's has been fast disappearing.

    MAN IN BLACK
You're trying to trick me into
giving away something -- it won't
    work --

    VIZZINI
    (triumphant)
It has worked -- you've given
everything away -- I know where
    the poison is.

    MAN IN BLACK
    (fool's courage)
    Then make your choice.

    VIZZINI
    I will. And I choose --

And suddenly he stops, points at something behind the Man In
    Black.

    VIZZINI
-- what in the world can that be?

    CUT TO:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 47.

    THE MAN IN BLACK

    turning around, looking.

    MAN IN BLACK
What? Where? I don't see anything.

    CUT TO:

    VIZZINI

busily switching the goblets while the Man In Black has his
    head turned.

    VIZZINI
Oh, well, I-I could have sworn I
    saw something. No matter.

The Man In Black turns to face him again. Vizzini starts to
    laugh.

    MAN IN BLACK
    What's so funny?

    VIZZINI
I'll tell you in a minute. First,
let's drink -- me from my glass,
    and you from yours.

And he picks up his goblet. The Man In Black picks up the
one in front of him. As they both start to drink, Vizzini
    hesitates a moment.

Then, allowing the Man In Black to drink first, he swallows
    his wine.

    MAN IN BLACK
    You guessed wrong.

    VIZZINI
    (roaring with laughter)
You only think I guessed wrong --
    (louder now)
    -- that's what's so funny! I
    switched glasses when your back
    was turned. You fool.

    CUT TO:

    THE MAN IN BLACK

There's nothing he can say. He just sits there.

    CUT TO:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 48.

    VIZZINI

    watching him.

    VIZZINI
You fell victim to one of the
    classic blunders. The most famous
is "Never get involved in a land
war in Asia." But only slightly
less well known is this: "Never
go in against a Sicilian when
    death is on the line."

He laughs and roars and cackles and whoops and is in all
ways quite cheery until he falls over dead.

Someone had to do it Also cromagnum thanx for the completely idiotic statement earlier, you just made my sig!(spelling and grammar mistakes included) Every time I look at it I'll laugh...

I don't think there is going to be any compromise except in comprehending how each party is structured. Like when I run with Havanti, I can keep up with him no problem, depending on which character I play. Mostly, while he plays his Sorcs all the time, there is little left to do than to just clean up messes and make sure others get to the end. Good thing I know each quest as well as he does and usage of the map to know right where he is, except in the Pit. Havanaty can run but he cannot hide.

Man.. I can't resist these social diatribes...

If the OP doesn't think his original post came across as elitist, boa****ll, condesending and patronizing... then he lacks some awareness of how he communicates. <-- Yes I know this statement sounds pretty harsh and judgemental

That doesn't mean Loki's a bad guy. Probably not, what he is proposing to do "teach folks how to play" is fairly nice and well meaning. The way he plans to do it strikes me as pretty "un-fun" with him planning and orcastrating everything for everyone else involved.

When someone else posts that they think he's coming across high and mighty, he snipes back (understandable) and then pretty much says the same boa****ll condesending stuff. My imagination provides...

"I'm not bragging, I'm just saying were the best there is and that I'm happy to prove it to any of you loosers who dare challenge that imutable fact!"

Sorry, but you pretty much just demonstrated what the responder was complaining about while trying to deny it, and the responder was of course pretty much demonstrating the same attitude in his post that he was complaining about against you.

And those who poke at the folks poking at other folks... pretty much more of the same isn't it?

I guess my messages are these....

If someone says you sound like a jerk on a forum... you should consider if you do and why they might think so. (if you care about that at all) You may say "I'm nice than I seem on the forumn..." well why is that and why can't you seem like yourself here more often?

If you have a complaint about a post.. try to complain without sounding like the person you are complaining about. If you want to throw stones try not to do it while wearing glass armor as it makes you look rather foolish.
