Thelanis - Warforged Shield of the <Fellowship of the Golden Night>
Well, I have to say that this has never been an issue for me. Rust Monsters are more scared of me than I am of them. I've never been 1-shot by a Rust Monster but they have been by me (on normal at least ).
Seriously, the stun is annoying and I know a lot of WF pride themselves of self-sufficiency. But if you are running Threnal and there's a caster in the group, give them a wand and just say "I know you're not a healer, but if I get stunned could you please just make sure you keep me up". Only a total jerk would refuse.
I've never been killed by a Rust Monster, so their stun has only ever been an annoyance. Given how many times I've been held and subsequently killed on every character BUT my Warforged, it's a fair trade. Hold is far worse and far more common than Rust Monster stuns.

I have and play several WF characters on a regular basis, heck my main is one. But in all honesty I wouldnt want them to change the rustie/wf relationship. I mean, my god, the devs actually made a smart monster. It sees what it believes to be the biggest meal, then goes for it. I'm more surprised that more mobs dont have certian behavior patterns like we do. I mean, if you ran into an enemy fighter, cleric, rogue and caster, are you going to try to take out the fighter first? Heck no, you try to one shot the caster or incap the clr first. I find it unreal of all the mobs in the world that charge the first person they see until someone else does more dmg.
And, going back to regards of the OP, I would rather have that small chance of getting stunned by a rust monster that appears in only a few quests in exchange for being able to bullrush a beholder, forgetting to slap on my optics and still come out in excellent shape.

Ageed...get a greater aberation bane club and a wooden tower sheild, and go to town...they will die before you.
My guildies laugh at me cause I'll run full bore at them with this set up. And when running displacement and haste, you'll be just fine.
Hell I'd solo the named von 5 rusty if you asked me to.
I played a WF to 12 th level and while the rust thing was a shock when I found out about it in Threnal and then again in TS.... its only isolated quests where this is a problem. WF immunities are useful in every quest (even tho healing is another problem) its a more than fair trade I would say. Just dont fight them.
It's really kinda annoying. I mean, it was cute the first few times it happened... but after I got over the cuteness aspect, it's kinda annoying that they souped up their abilities versus warforged so much. I think the average fighter has more metal on them than half the warforged out there.
But don't let logic or facts get in the way of cuteness...
Anyone know what the dc on the stun is?
I would imagine it's fairly high. My Fighter's got about +20 Fort, and if a Warforged comes by, about half the time he's stunned. So, at least near the high level quests like Vale, it's gotta be a DC 30. Lower levels, I'm not sure.
I suppose it depends on the type and size of the rust monster you're talking about. . .
. . .
. . . Though all of them seem equally hungry to eat me. . .

Look people, slather your body with steak jucices and then run off into a pack of wolves with 5 other non slathered people. Are you going to complain they target you out too?
While I agree full plate should be targeted more than a composite plating (wither worn or bolted on) it makes sense that WF look like they are walking around with A-1 on their exteriors to that creature. Somehow my then muckbane or now adamantium everbright weapons don't seem to have any problem with rusties. Yeah, they also have to hit me to stun me too and if I blind them or kill them first, problem solved.
That still doesn't mean he stops making that shreik of terror when seeing them like you fleshies do when seeing that...what is it again, scoripon that uses poision? Oh yeah, I laugh at mummy's diseases and anything using the phrase "negative level" so no complaints from me either.
But yes, I think adding stirges would be a fair compromise for seeing the enemy as a walking buffet.
Now I also demand we have NPC giant hamburgers and oil opponents too!
(Crud, now I'm hungry again...)
Be careful what you wish for, what you say is best; for sometimes what you seek is found, not at the end of the quest.
I AM, -- the truthseeker
I am currently at sea, but when I return I will try to get some stun DC numbers for ya. I have a 2pal/10sorc who should be in the vale soon. I had a 25 fort and soloed the rusties and named in von5 fine. By the time I hit Rainbow, I should be 30+, which will probably be a 1 only failure.
My strategy, max/empower firewall, run in and cleave with +3 icy burst greatsword of everbright, and hope the Cleric doesn't hate warforged
long standing gripe.
As many other have mentioned every time it comes up....wf are maybe 5-10% metal tops. Wood, leather, fiber, liquids, some metal.
If a 250 pound wf that is 5% metal, so 12 pounds, is super duper agro magnet for a rust monster, then I want to see a tank in 50 pounds of plate armor attract rust monsters from across the horizon and chase them down the moment they enter a quest.
And no where in any paper rules exists a stun attack vs warforged. It was made up because it seemed that warforged should be pretty much killed outright by elite rust monsters.
If rust monsters can stun any wf, I want to see flesh characters get the same stun effect from ANY monster that eats humanoids. So like say....50% of everything out there. Same logic, just turn the tables.
That would be fun too right?
While am not sure why they stun the WF, unless it's from the shock of being 33% corroded ... I can understand them chasing them down. In all general sense when playing DnD I melee'd once early on and learned to never come close to one ever again- and back then WF was not even a twinkle in the eye of DnD. I've highlighted some clear points why these bloody critter's should be the scorn of all who have any metal about them.
Rust Monster
The hide of these creatures varies in color from a yellowish tan underside to a rust-red upper back. A rust monster’s prehensile antennae can rust metals on contact.
The typical rust monster measures 5 feet long and 3 feet high, weighing 200 pounds.
Combat
A rust monster can scent a metal object from up to 90 feet away. When it detects one, it dashes toward the source and attempts to strike it with its antennae. The creature is relentless, chasing characters over long distances if they still possess intact metal objects but usually ceasing its attacks to devour a freshly rusted meal.
The creature targets the largest metal object available, striking first at armor, then at shields and smaller items. It prefers ferrous metals (steel or iron) over precious metals (such as gold or silver) but will devour the latter if given the opportunity.
Rust (Ex)
A rust monster that makes a successful touch attack with its antennae causes the target metal to corrode, falling to pieces and becoming useless immediately. The touch can destroy up to a 10-foot cube of metal instantly. Magic armor and weapons, and other magic items made of metal, must succeed on a DC 17 Reflex save or be dissolved. The save DC is Constitution-based and includes a +4 racial bonus.
A metal weapon that deals damage to a rust monster corrodes immediately. Wooden, stone, and other nonmetallic weapons are unaffected.
If it makes you feel any better... I did an elite run of rainbow a couple of weeks ago, where the casters just were not helping out with the rusties and eles as much as they could... was just past the shrine where I was just down to playing naked from it - on my human - only because I wanted to get the dang thing over with and of course could not let them beat up on the WF in the group.

You know, if you think about it, the touch of a rust monster should just kill humans instantly. Well, anyone with iron in their blood, really. Imagine if your blood stopped being able to carry oxygen, maybe not instant death, but you'll wish it was...

Are we there yet?
as Ive stated 1 million times before, a wf is ONLY 5% metal, as per wotc own site states and as such EVERY humaniod in ANY full metal plate armor has more metal on them, period.
dont know why people cant read and understand that what rusties to with wf right now is total bs...
