I am going to humbly submit that there are ton's of painful ways to die in a quest.
I play with a static group on Tuesdays. There are 5 of us regulars, and we have a devil of a time with some of the stat things. We tried Xorian Cipher the other night. Some of us are 8, some are 7 and our cleric is 5...
We found negative levels galor in there...I couldn't land a hit on those skelly's for the life of me when I was down 3 negative levels...But I sure could die quick
Now I will admit, not being able to die when you are a statue will be a little bit of a time suck, but it's probably the way the dev's intended it from the beginning...( and is that confirmed as a change on risia?)
While I have been cranky with Turbine for almost a month now, I find this change more in line with the "makes sense" to the story of Stormreach than other changes I have seen lately.

I got no problem with this change. Really, if you really want to die and cannot figure out how, you don't deserve it .
If you are feebleminded and nobody can help you, Recall and get heal and come back. On average, the 20% XP hit is no more than you would have got with /death.

Was running ADQ1 recently and a party member just died all of a sudden out of the blue. We asked him what happened, he said he thought that if you typed /death followed by more text that it wouldnt kill you.

Britches and Hose kidnapped my dog and are forcing him to farm Shroud ingredients.
Then you'll love this also, Rowan. My fiance, back when level cap was 12, had this pension for dying with her sorc JUST to make xp we were getting from doing the favor runs worth something. The cleric we were playing with was having fits with this. (Good guy, hope he comes back or is at least ok. vanished without warning he did).
Well, in the midst of our laughing, She just had to type in (because were we doing a mixture of type and talk)
/death is fun!
Sure enough, right there in the city of necropolis we all see her life bar empty. Now being the fact that I sit across the room from her at that particular point, and I knew she wasn't planning on dying anytime soon, I was in shock. So was she as she wasn't planning on killing herself right then either. Then we found out what she did. To this day I tease her and to this day she still insists it is fun.

Nothing is stopping you from releasing. This is a poor example really of why /death should be allowed.
Or are you saying that getting separated from your group and dying alone from a bunch of mobs means that you should suffer no XP penalty? I think since you screwed up, you should not get the same XP as someone else. XP is a reward for doing something successfully.

Personally I like the change, I've always thought /death was just an excuse for lazy and poor play.
But........
If you all want to keep it that bad, how about attach a -100,000xp loss to doing it while conscious. That will a stigma to overcome.....ha ha!

Thw whole "fix" to /death is nothing short of rediculous. What is it you are trying to stop Devs? If its exploits using /death I cant think of a single one that you couldn't drow/burn/beat to death instead of /death.
Silly change, useless and not worth the time spent in it.

It's a good change. /death should not be an oft-used mechanic or a strategy, but a last resort.

Honestly /death shouldnt be an option for solving problems in the game. Its always seemed cheap and cheesy way to solve your problems.
Carry greater restore and heal scrolls...they dont cost that much for as little as you might need to use them
Out of 7 characters the only ones I have that cant use those scrolls on someone else in a pinch are the WF wiz and the WF barb
If you have a spell as a cleric or wizard that is critical in many situations like heal, raise dead, greater restore, stone to flesh just carry a few - i mean jeez just cause you many not have it loaded doesnt mean you cant cast it right?
And honestly isnt this mostly use by capped characters that shouldnt really care if they lose the -20% anyway
at that point just recall.
Or with many it should be pretty easy to find a trap to stand in and let it wipe you out if you are really insistent about it

I will admit I don't solo much, unless it is with my umd sorcerer. She dies so much I never get a chance to notice I may need to get rid of some kind of stat impediment.
I will say however, that this may affect those who solo. Interesting...
Umm ok, had a thought.
Didn't people who are in "solo" missions get the luxury of no xp debt if they recalled in a quest?
And yes, I realize that some of you are soloing in "normal-elite" missions...just bringing it up

Instead of adding a change like this (which I hate btw), they should work on fixing some of those long standing bugs...like the stormcleave ones, like the demon queen never ever ever takes any damage one, like the door tells you your party member just went in on normal but it's really elite one, like all the others that have been around forever and are either bad, ugly or just plain annoying.
Just another jab at people who like to solo and I'm getting really fed up with it.
