Default RolePlayers unite under one banner!

We the Lightstorm's Dragonslayers have been around since Headstart on this game. We are a mature RP guild that tries to get more immersion out of DDO in all way possible. We tie quests into RP story arcs for our characters. We explore character personality and even some of us RP slightly evil characters.

We are of all timezones and are one of the largest RP guilds on Sarlona is not the biggest.

We are well known in the RP community and quest with others of our ilk as well.

If you would like to know more the please visit our website at www.lightstorm.info

Or look for us in game and ask to speak with an officer that is currently online.

More power to you but, wouldn't you all have the same story arcs? I mean it's really laid bare and clear on DDO. The whole role playing thing on here seems so silly it's laughable. If you want to role play then go back to pen and paper. That simple and alot more fun. Don't get me wrong. I played the ell out of pnp games like Shadowrun, Twillight2000, Vampire, Rifts. But personally I think anyone who thinks ok we can rp this online version of D&D is a fruitcake out of touch with reality. That's saying alot from a guy like me who rolled dice instead of using a computer to do it for me. It's a dumb idea. I know I will get some flak on this but, it's the truth. This is not pnp and we can't do excatly what we would like to. Get a grip or go buy some paper, dice and do your own thing.

I'll happily admit to being a fruitcake, but at least I don't tell people what they should do with their own time. Everyone has their own opinion and yours is as acceptable as any other. But it is just that - an opinion.

As for why RP on DDO? Because we want to! For some people, creating a character in a game just isn't complete unless you can delve into their personality as well as their looks and skills. If all you want out of a character is a set of pixels to beat up another set of pixels, more power to you. But some of us want our experience a little more in depth than that.

Roleplay becomes about the community, the friends, the fantasy of being able to play around in a world where magic is a reality and we're capable of feats that we could only imagine about here. But that's the point - it's somewhere we can let our imaginations roam free.

Sure, DDO isn't the ideal place for us to explore RP - but it could be. Dungeons & Dragons is very much about roleplay for many of us, and I know that this group would love Turbine to help us out with a few little things such as chairs we can actually sit in, being able to play evil characters (what is a world without conflict?) and other such trifles.

But even if this doesn't happen (and let's face it - none of us are holding our breaths) there is still a lot of fun to be had in DDO with roleplay. It's about character creation and exploration, not just about building the biggest and best to outplay everyone else. If you don't care about the characters and the story, why play DDO and not some other other hack & slash? Because you want to.

We have our way, you have yours. The two can co-exist just fine.

There are plenty of ways to RP in a game, baflin haverstaff. I am sorry that in your years you have not come across such a thing.

    1) You create the story:
    - Yes folks, no matter the game, and no matter what surrounds you, all you need do is develop the story you wish to tell. DDO provides us with predetermined quests and bosses. Write out some ideas to use those to your advantage and change the story of the quest. ** REMEMBER: It is ok to ignore the prewritten story of a quest for your own story **

    2) Don't Break Canon:
    - What is Canon? Why that are the "rules" that make the world. Rules such as vampires don't exsist outside of the Matrix, and they are only programs inside of it. For DDO, the Canon is basically the ECS (Eberron Campaign Setting) and it contains such things as the world and planes being seperate from other worlds, and that only one half-dragon has ever been know to exsist. A rare story I have not seen in ages is that you "found your way to Eberron from the Forgotten Realms" which just does not fly in Eberron.

    3) Learn Your World:
    - You would think this falls under #2, but it is slightly different. It is hard to RP in a world when you don't know what you are talking about. The difference between a Aernal and a Valenar, Thrane and Karrnath, and Khorvair and Xen'drik is huge. It is good to know these things in advance. Knowledge can be gained just from the Wiki alone. If you plan to RP, do not be afraid of this tool.

    4) RP Publicly Using Proper Channels:
    - As our gracious friend proved with such zeal, some people are just not accepting of RP in an MMO. If you RP, do it in the open so others can see you and can join in the fun if they so wish. But do it using /say, so that the poor guy standing by the quest giver for the dragon does not have to hear your conversation next to the front gates of House Kundarak. It's just common curtesy.

    5) Help Others Grow:
    - My final piece of advice is to be constructive in your critisim, and open in your RP. D&D is a fantasy world, and some stories can be rather out there. Most of those are possible. So as long as the player is respecting #2 & 3, then you should be receptive to what they are doing. Maybe they have Fey blood in them, or they were cursed by the Day of Mourning. Even more extreme, they could be a werewolf that escaped the Silver Flames purge of Lycanthropy and is hiding in Stormreach until he feels its safe to return. These are just stories, and creative ones to boot, so run with it. Put out the feelers with a minor addition. Maybe name drop a "prominent figure" in there and see what the other person does. If they don't react to it, drop the idea and let the story move on.

These are just a few of the things I follow in a personal code of RP. Things I learned RPing in the greatest RP community that I have ever found in an MMO, which would be Matrix Online. So when some one like baflin haverstaff starts spouting out that you are daft and retarted because you are enjoying the game you want, just turn to him with a /angry and then type in /ignore add <insert name>.

"Har! This place be our 'ome and by willikers tis a fine place ta be with the Lightstorm crowd right next ta ye! Infact, next round tis on me!” Avabere grumbles, being friendly as always but how he was going to explain this to the Sovereign Host that his tithe was the ale bill of the guild, he never knew but somehow he would prevail.

Avabere watches all the ale being served up and smiles. “Drink up, the second round will be on Mattax!” The dwarf paladin just smiles and slaps Mattax on the back. “A family we are and a family we will always be no matter which part of Khorvaire, Xen’drik, Aerenal, even Lhazaar Principalities that ye are from!”

((I’m happy to say that eventhough I am an Australian I still manage to find fun in Lightstorm when I am online on weekends or on my work nights ))

I agree with what you said since you agreed that most all my comments were pretty much spot on. I don't disagree with role playing on here, just the fact that it's completely pointless. If you said it's about community thats fine. I have alot of friends on here that I consider my brothers and sisters. Some of which left the game for LOTR's which bites cause I can't no longer send them tells or rag on.
I'm not telling anyone what to do with their time. God knows how much I waste on here. Just the fact that rp'ing on here is as said before pointless. Like I laid out in the previous post, this game we play pretty much up to someone else not us. I dare say the game sucks. If it weren't for the ppl I know on here and have a great time with I'd stop. It to me is 15 dollars a month social club.

Well... if people have fun doing it, then it isn't pointless, now is it?

I don't understand. Marrra mentioned we are all to our own devices and even Kadish mentioned if we have fun, so do it. *shrugs* I didn't see there any need to go any further.

In the classic words of Avabere: "Have a tankard and ye can have faith in anything!"

Now, the topic at hand wasn't role playing.. it was about Lightstorm Dragonslayers and our recruiting drive that we are about to begin! :P
